Hey guys, freshman student here..really interested in dentistry partly because my uncle is a dentist and I like what i see him do..

HOWEVER, I am not MANUALLY DEXTER..not a bit..

is dentistry not a good fit????????

there are some people that are naturally manually gifted. Their dexterity level is off the chart and they will spend only the minimum time required in the labs and sim labs. And there is a lot of people that will require to spend a lot more time PRACTICING. If you are willing to put in the effort you can learn the hand skills to be a dentist.

practice makes perfect...though perfection usually can't be reached, you'll get use to it if you keep on trying.

What do you mean u've got no manual dexterity...? as in you can't play instruments or draw?

I can draw but only stick figures,,hahahaha,,i even failed a drafting class in highschool..also I play the guitar but more comfortable in strumming rather than lead or something..

Both of you are going to UCLA? thats so cool..Im an undergrad at California too, Whittier college...ever heard of that?wheres did u go for undergrad?

Manual dexterity is overrated. Unless you have zero control of your fingers, you will develop the necessary hand skills to be a dentist. Dont worry about it.

I am at the stick figures myself! But I think there is more to it, for example I am pretty handy with making art's and crafts stuff, or furniture or fixing crap.

Don't worry, we are all going to need A LOT of practice to get used to the tools and the teeth and the various dental procedures. For that reason the school is 4 years.

I went to UCSB for undergrad.
