hey there,

im a 1st time applicant so im just giving you my point of view. i know quite alot of people taking their OATs in feb. i don't think you can really be "fully" ready for the OATs (i personally think luck is a big factor), im taking it tomorrow and am about to pull my hair out. but anyway if you look at the "who got in" thread from last year, people were being accepted as late as april and may. o well good luck i hope u make it! 👍

Hi,

I am not a reapplicant, but I am also taking the OAT in February for Fall 2007 admission. I called all of the schools that I have applied to (SUNY, PCO, ICO, NOVA, and NECO) and they will all accept my OAT scores as long as it is before the deadline. However, I only have 1 shot on the OAT because I can not take the exam again after 90 days and still make the deadline. SUNY has the first deadline of February 28th so I will definitely be taking the OAT before then.

I feel your pain - I am extremely nervous about the OAT too - good luck!

pienfoo is right about how you can never be fully prepared for the OAT. but I think hard work and persistence will get you score way above the norm. luck can only get you the average. if you want to do well and get in some optometry schools, you shouldn't rely too much on your luck and should start studying your things stat. i'm also a reapplicant.

If you take practice tests. Be sure to go over the solutions to the answers and understand it completely. So that if you were to take a similar test with different numbers or reworded problems you would comfortable answer all questions correctly. It will give you a better understanding of the material.

Studying off notes or mcat books will only get you so far. What made me successful on the exam was the practice problems and tests.

Hi ldyswtnes,

I have already interviewed at 2 out of the 5 schools that I have applied to. I applied back in September/October time frame because I was not sure when I was going to take the OAT. The other 3 schools have asked for me to fax in my scores immediately after the exam because it takes about 10-12 days for the scores to reach them.

I say go ahead and apply and then take the OAT sometime in February but make sure you are well prepared because it may be your only shot for some schools. I attached this in a previous post - but here is a list of all of the schools' last accepted test dates and other relevant information. Do you know what schools you want to apply to?

Hope this helps - good luck!!

Im writing the OAT tomorrow and Im supppper nervous. What schools offer interviews before they receive your scores? The only school that invited me for an interview before the OAT was PCO... they'll have my scores by the time of my interview.
