Hi! I have a few questions regarding pharmacy to ask...here's hoping someone can help. I went to a community college a while back and got my AA in Liberal Arts, and transferred to a CSU but I did not want to become a teacher after all so I dropped out of school and proceeded to work full time. I now realize what I want to be. I would love to become a pharmacist but don't know how I would go about it. I would like to apply to UOP but I need to meet some requirements, that's where the confusion begains for me. Has anyone gone about becoming a pharmacist after being out of school for some time? What did you have to do to get into the pharmacy program? Any tips on how to get in to one? I've searched around but usually they only have info for high school students trying to get into a pharmacy program, nothing on how to do it if you've been out for a while. Thanks! I'm crossing my fingers someone can shed some insight on my problem.

One suggestion is you start fulfilling pre-requisites for UOP (they do have a graduate program separate from their highschool 0-6 program). Seeing that you got an AA in liberal arts, most of the pre-reqs (if not all) that you will have to do will probably be all science and a few math classes (i.e. general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, anatomy & physiology, etcetera). Depending, the pre-req coursework will take you 2 to 3 years. In addition, some volunteer work or possibly certification for a pharm tech would also be valuable.

There are a few threads on here where people discuss going back to school to become a pharmacist... and depending how far you were out of school (and depending on the school you plan on applying to), some of your courses may still count.

Atop this forum is a thread about the profession and other useful info that might help you. Hope that helps!

Use this forum to locate people that are applying to UOP - doing a search with the key word "Pacific" is a great way to start. Secondly, you need to talk to an academic counselor at a school you are willing to finish your pre-reqs at. They will help you out on what you need to do to get back in the game. I would also talk to admissions for UOP. Discuss your situation and ask for any recommendations. They deal with people all the time looking for some direction - that should get you started.

I would read through the pre-pharmacy FAQ at the top of the forum - there is lots of great information about pre pharmacy - and you will find answers to commonly asked questions there...

Good :luck:

Thank you, all of you for replying...I am really lost, looking for the right direction. I am a licensed pharmacy tech already on the pharmacy board and all but as of right now, I can't find a job. Every where I've looked wants 1-2 years experience and that I do not have. Someone had suggested that I go volunteer my time so that could count as experience but it sucks because I'm on my own, how can I afford to go to school full time and volunteer as well as work part time? I can't live at home because that is 3 hours away. Oh, and I went to CSU Stanislaus for a bit before dropping out. Thanks again for all the tips and stuff.
