I'm thinking I want to go to med school and eventually become a Psychiatrist. I am planning on majoring in psychology in college and taking all the pre-req science courses. What else should I be doing to prepare?

Shadow doctors, it would probably be hard to shadow a Psychiatrist though.. But I would try and get a taste for the medical field in general by shadowing a couple of different types of doctors. Then you need some volunteer work i.e.- at a hospital. Then you need some other non medically related volunteer work and then probably some research thrown on top of that. Plus you will need to take the pre-regs for the med school and MCAT.
This is just an overview of what is needed some school's vary on there required courses and others are universally the same, just make sure to check..
But this question I am sure has been answered before so do a little searching...
Dr. Richard Selzer, the great Yale professor of surgery and writing, once described psychiatrists as the "Nuns of the Medical Profession." I think that it was in his book, "Confessions of a Knife."
