  1. Pre-Veterinary
I am a senior pre vet animal science major at OkSU. I will be applying for te class of 2016 and I'm getting to that freak out point! I have 17 hours left ie ochem biochem physics 2 and micro so so much for a relaxing senior year. Barring any disasters I will apply with a 3.4 cumulative and about a 3.2 or 3.3 core. Not exactly as high as I'd like. I am taking the GRE in April and as far as practice scores go I'm at about a 1250. I have about 10,000 hours of vet experience(mixed- large and small) I also have about 4,000 hours of volunteer experience. And really really good Elors(for ok at least). I'm just kind of at that oh my gosh this is the rest of my life stage. I need HONEST opinions about these stats...good bad even competitive?! Any tips on how to improve the last year?! Thanks in advance!!!

Take a deep breath and relax-- it looks like you're doing just fine! Your amount of experience is great, and if you can back that up with excellent recommendations your application sounds strong. The two suggestions I have are to end strong academically and --a little less obvious-- focus on other interests too. It's good to have something a little different that makes you stand out in your interviews. Some of my interviewers spent more time asking about my participation on theatre, unorthodox educational history, and interesting non-animal experiences than anything else. I got the impression that they were interested in knowing me as a person, and having unique things to talk about gave me an edge. Not to mention that you'll probably have less time to do non-animal-related things in vet school, so you should enjoy them while you have the opportunity 🙂

Good luck, and feel free to PM me if I can answer any other questions.

I talked about wine in both of my interviews hahaha. Although the second one was how it's one of my responsibilities as a server (wine service), then they asked me basically if it was part of my responsibility at the restaurant to know about all of the wines and to give advice about them. I said part of it was, but if I don't know a lot about the wine they're asking I would feel free to ask my bosses or the bartender 🙂 hehe. It's been hitting me all year that this is like the biggest year of my life, the moment I've been waiting for and working so hard to achieve. It's ok to be excited but don't let it turn into fear and anxiety haha. This is an exciting time in your life and it's ok to be pumped and so ready to face these challenges!

Your stats def don't look garbage-worthy... so with the crapshoot that is vet school admissions, you have just as good a chance as most people who apply. Just make sure you put together a very nice application package, because that's something you have control over.

Thanks for the feedback! Is it bad if most of my experience is from one clinic? Does that make it less valuable?

I had 3 clinics, with the VAST majority of my hours from one of them. And 100% of my hours were small animal. I had "depth" rather than "diversity" and it worked for me...

Thanks everyone! I'm at that oh my god this is really about to happen stage and I just hope I can post on the successful applicant stats page in the near future!

Yeah, that's can be a very nerve-wracking stage in your life/career! But remember to enjoy the things you want to do in life now, because it's not going to get any less busy/stressful as you move on!
