Ok so I know there are many out there with this problem and I have spent hours on this forum looking for the answers.

Here is the situation:

- 2.461 cgpa
- going into senior year of college
- over stressing and anxiety attacks all the time
- practice MCAT 28

basically im scared and worried that I wont get into an MD, DO, or POD school. my grades suck.

Ive been struggling with my family the past 3 years. my father is bipolar and suicidal. my sister caused a bunch of family problems that was messy (went to court a lot). she got knocked up at 18 (thats not the worst part).

the pressure is one and the stress is a big burden. my question is what must i do to recover my grades so that i have a chance at any medical career? how do i recover my gpa? also and study tips for science classes would be great!

thanks!

I'm sorry, but with a GPA that low, no school will take you. Yes, we all have life/family/work problems, but that is not a reason to blame for the low GPA. I would recommend going back and retake A LOT of classes or do a post bacc. Your practice MCAT is an estimate of what you can score for your real MCAT. Don't rely on it too much. Even if you do end up scoring a 28 or higher on the MCAT. It wont do you much good because of the low GPA. I wouldn't apply this cycle because it will only waste your money and time. Instead, work on your GPA and improve your profile. I'm pretty sure MD OD or MDP schools are tried of hearing students problems. I think they want to hear how you over come your problems.

Good luck to you.

Bump that cGPA up to a 2.7+ and score at 28+ on the MCAT and you WILL get an invite to a pod school. MD is probably out of the question. DO is possible but you need to get a higher than average MCAT to offset your poor GPA - somewhere over 30. If you do manage to get over 30, you will have an opportunity to be consider for a one year DO special masters program.

Short term: You need to work your ass off for your senior year. Get volunteer and shadowing hours (both DO and DPM to help you make a decision). Finally, you need to nail the MCAT.

The ball is in your court, all hope is not lost.

And Stop. You still have a shot at pod school depending on if you can get that GPA somewhere around 2.7, which is possible if you are taking a bunch of senior classes. I recommend science and non-science classes since the GPA is split. Personally, I feel you are too close especially with a mcat >28 for postbacc, but you may need it. If you take a postbacc and do well on it and the real mcat,I suggest you look at some caribbean medical schools like SABa or AUC or even a MUA or AUA. ALso, podiatry will still be in teh cards.I feel that post bacc or not, you have no shot at md or DO.

I usually don't say people can't make it but as of right now... I don't think any Podiatry school will take you. Do like the others are saying and definitely retake classes you did bad in or even take NEW classes that can help raise your GPA. Keep in mind that AACPM averages ALL grades together (the good, the bad, and the ugly). It would be beneficial to you to get A's in ALL of the classes you take from now on. It will show admissions committees that you have the will power to overcome obstacles. Good luck to you! Remember to stay focused on the goal and eventually you will get there! 👍

I think you should take maybe one or two years doing a post bac retaking and taking upper division biology classes

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OSTEOPATHICS grade forgiveness policy

that will totally change the outlook if you retake two years of class with some newer upper division biology

also retake MCAT 🙂
