Hi everyone,
I'm in a bit of a dilemma here🙁, i've been accepted in SJSM but i'm starting to have second thoughts..i'm thinking of applying for Saba and MUA , the problem is ..they both want a pre-requisite of Chem which i do not have, should i take chem courses in the fall and go to Saba or MUA in May 2012?? or should i avoid wasting time and just go to SJSM in Jan?..
also,i'm not sure that either of these schools will accept me ..my GPA is low due to screw ups in 1st year but its been improving ever since (my GPA for last year is 3.6 but the cGPA is around 2.5ish) ..what do u guys think my chances are at these schools?and your thoughts on taking pre-med at MUA? is it worth it to waste a year of doing pre-med stuff to get into Saba/MUA ?

My advice is to not go to medical school without taking chemistry (need to walk before you can run...the requirements are there for a reason). Get into the best school you can, even if that means waiting an extra semester or 1 year (within reason).

Go spend sometime getting chemistry. The year would be worth it to be going to a California approved school.

Yes, it is...The consensus at SDN and www.valuemd.com is that the big 4 (and posibly MUA and St Matthews) are the only schools worth going when one's heading to the carib. Going to any other schools would be a huge gamble with your future. I think you should consider taking chemistry and try the big 4 or MUA/St Matthews.

What year are you in? What is your MCAT if you've taken it? Its encouraging that your GPA is rising. A consistent GPA taking serious courses shows that you can handle the rigor of medical school.

Medical school is a marathon. Do not try to skip ahead the process, it will come to bit you in the butt later when its all too late. Since you haven't taken chemistry, I'll assume you havent taken the MCAT.

Take your time and do well in the prerequisite courses like Chemistry and whichever other prereq courses you haven't taken. Take your time and do really well on the MCAT. Continue to try to do well in the undergraduate courses and see how much you can bump up your cGPA.

If you bump up your cGPA to like 3.2 by the time your done your degree and you have a solid MCAT...you could be in the running for DO schools. If you have a not so hot cGPA by the time you are done your degree, you do a post-bac if you have a really good MCAT, and if you do well you can be in the running for a US MD school.

Dont fast track the process...Give yourself a shot to be in the US. Caribbean schools will always be there as your backup

Take chemistry, work hard and get into the best med school you can. But don't kill yourself bruh, take care.

with a cGPA of 2.5? my suggestion is: don't go to saba!!! my honest opinion: you will not make it through there, so don't waste your time and money. I've seen some of the smartest failing here.. people with 3.7+ and MCAT of 38... but it's up to you, just a suggestion
