Henry Ford

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Interviewed there a couple of years back (CA2 now). I know a few people that trained there and worked with one personally as an intern. Broad generalizations but: they work hard, probably harder than some other residencies but the training is great. I recall some pay incentives for residents staying late, etc. The guy that I know that trained there was very strong. Right out of residency he was doing complex peds and hearts for what it's worth. Downside is it's in Detroit. At least the suburbs can be nice and the roads are well organized. Definately a stable hospital system, they're not in any financial trouble. If you can deal with the area I'd interview there for sure. Certainly not lacking in case load or anything like that.

Does anyone know if you can match into thier categorical program as a DO? I thought that I remember them mentioning that at the interview.

I'm a CA-2 at henry ford and a DO and yes you can apply as a DO into their program - they have a osteopathic internship through henry ford bi-country where you do i think half of the internship and the other half at ford. June of your internship year is when you do your anesthesia month of your internship where they orientate you to the O.R. so really your internship ends May 31st.

overall i am very happy with my training and exposure to a variety of cases. they just started a cardiac fellowship this year and their is also a pain fellowship as well. ford is a little weak on peds but you go to CHM for 2 months your CA-2 year and another month if you want your CA-3 year - but other than the only peds is MRI's and the occasional PDA's that come from the neonatal ICU - there is no other inpatient peds floor nor a picu in the hospital - though this will change with the opening of the new hospital in west bloomfield, where, supposedly, there will be a peds floor and more peds surgery occuring in the new hospital being built in the suburbs of detroit.

Can you apply as a DO into the categorical program, or just the advanced? Thanks.
