If you get accepted and then later you found out you are Hep B carrier, would the d-school kick you out?

I dont think they can. I see a huge legality issue there. I would see it similar as being accepted then getting in an accident and losing your legs. Both are disabilities the school would need to legally compensate for, i think. There might be an issue with insurance but I would call the school you got accepted to and ask.

For Midwestern you have to have a positive titer, meaning you have to be immune to hep b. Without the positive titer, you can't start there.

I believe OSU and Columbia are the same. I feel like quite a few schools require Hep testing as part of the initial screening.

that's pretty interesting. googling around, it seems that there is very little in the way of standardization of treatment in this area. each school/state pretty much does what it feels like, and it seems like a lot of schools/states are pretty unfriendly toward hep b carriers.

I guess if I had hep B I would thank the school for not letting me in. Otherwise, I could end up with a $300,000 degree and no patients to treat. I would assume as a dentist you would need to disclose to patients if you had hep b, and upon notifying them I would assume majority of patients would find a new dentist.

OP, I'm confused. Didn't you have to get your Hep B shots and show that you are immune before matriculation? Did you show a positive antibody titer as part of your immunization requirement for school? You should be immune to Hep B if you got your shots (which is pretty much a requirement for all schools). I would check your blood work again. Ask your doctor to do a full Hep panel to see if you're already immune or newly infected etc.

Good point! I should have prefaced my statement saying "I have no F-ing clue, but I will try and reason out why."

you should be immune by then. i imagine they have the right to kick you out if it did somehow happen, not sure if they would.

my school required the first in the series before matriculation. i'm not sure if/when they check for more - i just finished my d1 year and have heard nothing more about it. i actually just got my third* in the series a couple days ago, and i've already seen a patient for a cleaning. i'll get a titer as well, but have no idea if they're going to enforce it or not.

*actually my 5th but my first two i received at a job and am unable to get the records.
