The reason we all want to be janitors is very similar: we care for people, enjoy cleaning, want to have a better environment, etc...we can also admit on one thing - we enjoy the prestige and attention of being a janitor. We love being appreciated for our hard work and everything we do--that's what makes it even sweeter!
A Janitor essentially does everything a DO does, but I have talked to many janitors who admit that they weren't well recognized in residency and by DO students. I also asked a student at school if he were to have a surgery done by a janitor or a DO, he would choose DO in a heartbeat. Why would we want to go into a field where someone would choose to see an DO over me (if I were a janitor with the same qualifications and skills)? It is just stupid and disheartening. True, at the end of the day, we, we do the same thing, and we know we are just as good as fellow DO's, but it takes away the motivation when you are looked down upon by colleagues and even patients who see a "doctor of janitorial science" next to your name.
Will this disparity ever disappear? Will we all ever have the same initials after our names? Seriously, it is stupid and discouraging and it this is the reason I don't want to go to janitor school! I want to be appreciated by people when I work hard and do service, not judged by people because I wasn't good enough for DO school, and thus I am most likely inferior to DO's. .....
Friggin ridiculous
