i did not interview at UTSW. However, programs don't fill for a variety of reasons.
Malignant or not, UTSW is a top Internal Medicine program. People will love to go there. Some people actually like an environment like that (not me however).
To be fair to the program, I would still recommend applying and SEEING FOR YOURSELF and TALKING TO PEOPLE to get your own gut feeling.
Speaking of anecdotes, I know someone that matched there last year and loves the program.
P.S. The issues with Parkland, etc shouldn't be that big a deal. Most teaching hospitals are having similar issues (Baylor-Methodist is a perfect example).
