Ok so this is a question that i was having with a friend on mine and we were stalemate so i wanted to ask here. Herpes, whether HSV 1 or HSV 2 is mainly a cutaneous disease. However, whenever i read up on encephalitis, it says that HSV can cause this. My question is, does the person have to be immunocompromised to get HSV encephalitis...or can it happen to immunocompetant people as well. I said that it only happns to immunocompromised ppl who have HIV or are undergoing chemotherapy, but my friend said that if u have herpes, and self-inoculate urself (touch ur blister then touch your eye), a immunocompetant person can get it too.
Who's right?
