Good morning my general surgeon friends! Jumping over to your board for a quick question.

So, I'm a anesthesiologist in private practice a few years now. Anyways, next week I'm at the ortho surgery all week, so I won't be seeing any of my general surgery colleauges for a while, and I am super impatient. Plus, I want to get an opinion from those of you that are going through residency to see what is the teaching is these days.

Went to ER yesterday. Turns out to be biliary colic. Had a massive fatty meal an hour before. U/S shows a bunch of good sized gallstones in there. (marble size maybe? it was a prelim read) First attack. Are you guys recommending lap chole for a first attack?

Thanks!

As an ER doc, I have to ask - if it's just biliary colic, without cholecystitis, why were you and surgery consulted (from your post, it sounds like you were there for pre-op)? Was there a stone lodged in the sphincter or in the duct? Otherwise, I just treat pain and nausea, caution the patient, and have the pt f/u with GSx for chole.

Or is this for you personally? That makes more sense, considering the way your post is written (on rereading with you as the patient).

It is TOS violation to ask medical advice/consultation on the forum.
