SIU:
1. dead town
2. you have to switch buildings for classes some times- some thing i'd hate in the winter
3. their library is smaller than my second grade library was = no where real to study
4. their students were really nice
5. they are 100,000$ cheaper than UIC
6. housing is realllly cheap and they have a day to help you find housing
7. siu degreee has the same worth as a uic degree
8. you may develop better social skills going to UIC (going to bars) --> I only say this cuz my interviewer pointed out that I speak reallly realllly fast, and said don't worry, if you go here, that'll slow down

9. i saw very few asians around. - both brown asians and yellow asians.
10. there is a new :new china buffet: in town
11. it's the home of Alton's Gentle Giant - a really tall guy
12. students seemed happy but i only saw two cuz i interviewed over one of their breaks.
13. Friendly staff - i got lost, and lady helped me find the office
14. you get prepped hardcore by the school itself for the NBDEs which is good because you need to pass that to become a dentist
15. They boast 98-100% pass rate for the boards, and were top 5 in the nation for the past 10 years or something like that on NBDEs part 1.
16.
UIC: take my word with a pinch of salt cuz i'm overly bias towards UIC
😍
1. great city
2. 100,000$ more expensive
🙁
3. Good bars, and people around to develop normal social skills --> im from suburbia and feel i can handle city living and fit in there --> how about you?
4. every specialty is there, and it's self contained in one building
5. Their NBDE pass rate isn't as good as UIC's... they also randomly tell you that it's bad themselves which makes no sense...as in their results are below the national average.... i forget maybe someone else can clarify this.
6. I get to be close to family, what about you?
7. You get to work closely with a latino/latina population, which i'm really looking forward to - i'm trying to go abroad for a semester to brush up on my spanish speaking skills!!!! YEY!
8. PRofessors are friendly, students were friendly, and seemed to want to help you out
9. School is fairly well maintained, and you'll have the Rush medical library near by if you don't like the UIC library
10. UIC sits in the middle of one of the largest medical districts in the world, so you get exposure to anything and everything you want
11. if you want to practice in chicago later on, you may be in a better position to make contacts, intern, etc...being where you want to establish yourself in the future
12. They prep you less for the NBDEs...but it's fine, everyone passes out eventually
Eventually, the dental school has to fit you just as much as you need to fit the school...if you'll notice some of my comments are person specific, because those are the things that I noted as either pros or cons...
OK, GOOD LUCK!!
