Just found this link several days ago, from Amazon book store's review.

Has anybody not submitted the application to AADSAS yet?
I submitted on Dec. 1st, and was told now there are 8 weeks delay in processing.
That means, my application can not be reviewed by dental school until two months later. 🙁
Do you have any advices on this? Shall I send something directly to dental school?
LLU 's deadline is Dec. 1, Those AADSAS guys said, I still can catch it because I submitted to AADSAS on the day. But, when I called Stony Brook, they said, maybe I can not catch their deadline (Jan. 15), because of the 8 weeks delay. Whom shall I trust?
I am really depressed now.

I hate to say it but it sounds bad to me. I hope you have great stats! Acceptances are made on a rolling basis so it really just depends on if they have any spots available for you when they get your application. Even if you have a 30 on the DAT and a 4.0 if their class is full, it is full. Then again, this is what my school preaches day in, day out--APPLY EARLY. So I could be wrong. Best of luck!

in this case aadsas is correct - as long as you submit online by the school's deadline, it will technically make the deadline. stony brook is probably implying that you won't have a good chance, regardless whether you made the deadline or not, since most ppl did submit before you....

Hmmm . . . I'm guessing you were aware that you could have applied earlier, but you couldn't apply until now. I wouldn't want to be in your shoes because you are cutting it close. But, if your grades/DAT are good, I think you'll be fine. I believe aphistis also applied about this time a few years ago and made out just fine. He may be able to give you some better advice.

Good Luck, I would have to agree with what was already said. I submitted my application late and it was at the schools by Oct 1st. They said because of this late submission, alot of the interviews have already been scheduled and offers have been made to people starting in Dec. The problem is that once they actually get the info from AADSAS, they usually have secondaries that delay the process even further. Some of my schools have been processing the app since oct and I haven't heard anything good or bad from them because it takes them so long. Hope that all works out for you,

If your stats are killer, you can get in.

First things first - welcome to SDN and the pre-dental forum! 👍 As far as deadlines are concerned, check with each school. I do know that some school's deadline applies to when you submitted your application to AADSAS (e.g. OSU). Check with each school as policies vary. Yes, you are a bit behind the ball on applying as classes are starting to fill up. If you have good stats then your chances improve greatly of getting in, but as with most things there are no guarantees. Best of luck! 👍

Hey welcome to SDN...

Let me jump out on a limb and give you some specifics because like you I had the impression that if I got my application in by November/December I would still be fine. The truth is that this year 2-3 thousand people had already submitted their aadsas application by JULY. I thought I applied early when I submitted aadsas in august, but my application number was 4500 something. If you submit you application now your application number could be 8000 something.

Why does the number matter? Well as I am learning all to late, interviews and acceptances are often first come first serve. LIke with UMKC, they accept a certain number of applicants each year. It is a fixed number like 200 or something. As soon as they reach that number they quit looking at applicants, even if the deadline hasn't passed yet!

So you are applying at the last minute of the application cycle which lowers your chances. I'm not going to say that it is impossible for you to get accepted, but your chances are lower in my opinion. Good luck! 👍

Dude, don't be depressed. What's the worst thing that could happen? You don't get in this year; you end up taking a year off working/travelling or whatever. Dental school sux my friend. S...U....X. I'm not kidding. I'm in first year dental at the University of Maine, and I so wish I had taken a year off last year. It's only december and I am burnt out!!! I don't know how I'm gonna keep at this pace. You'll know better for next year if you don't get in this year. Adios, and good luck.
P.S. Dental School -> Sux.
Being a dentist -> Sweetness, beyond belief

P.S. University of Maine Dental = joke

Welcome to SDN! Gavin was correct in stating there is a lot of help here. The one piece of advice I would offer you is to take much of what you see here "with a grain of salt." Many of us here are very opiniated, including yours truly, and are not as objective as should be.

Hey many of us would die to be in your position right now. Personally I don't care how hard it is or how burnt out I am. If you don't like it and you didn't expect to work hard then why are you in it? I don't mean to sound bitter but jeez......id rather be in a "sucky" dental school than none at all. Think about that one

Sorry man. I just have a final tomorrow that I am screwed for: so I guess I'm not really appreciating dental school right now. I did say that becoming a dentist is "sweetness, beyond belief" though. Did you see that? 😳

But I do mean what I said: not getting in because of timing isn't something to become depressed and sad about. Good luck in the application process: and believe me, once you get to dental school (which you will), you will totally have moments when you feel like screaming out "dental school sucks!!"

Hi, I'm new to this too.... (my first post!)

I'm in a similar situation... applied late and very very concerned about my application. I know there's no use in stressing about it when all I can really do is wait and see, but I could use some input on what you think my chances are...

My application in a nutshell:

AADSAS sent Nov. They say theyre sending it to schools next week...
DAT: AA 21, TS 20, PAT 18
GPA: 3.22

So my numerical stats aren't great... but do you think the other things about me would make up for it? I know that I already have my late application going against me...🙁

It would be great if any of u could let me know what you think...

My application in a nutshell:
Applying to: USCF, UCLA, UOP, LLU, USC, BU, Harvard, Tufts
AADSAS sent Nov. 11. They say theyre sending it to schools next week...
App #7000's
DAT: AA 21, TS 20, PAT 18
GPA: 3.22, but not sure how AADSAS calculates it. Science around 3.
Major: Chemistry, at a small private college. (My school is ranked in the top 5 'best' colleges according to USNews)
Experience: mom is dentist, also worked as dental assistant briefly this summer.
Research: did chemical engineering research at a prestigious university. no publications.
Extracurricular: president of the pre dental club at my school, many other activities, 2 of which i was also president.
Comm. Service: not much outside the predental club.

So my numerical stats aren't great... but do you think the other things about me would make up for it? I know that I already have my late application going against me...🙁

From what I've been told by people at my interviews DAT scores in the 20's are good. So you've got that going for you. I'm only applying to mid-west schools, so I can't tell you anything about how the schools you are applying to will treat your application. Most of the schools I've applied to will finish out all of thier interviews by January, and those interview dates are already filled (sorry). But I know there are schools that interview much later than that. You could call the schools you applied to and just ask them if they are still extending interviews. If not you could be way ahead of the curve for the next cycle. Good luck!

thanks so much🙂 thats a good idea.... i think i will call schools to see how much longer they'll be interviewing.

I too am a newcomer. But I'm glad y'all found the site before I, because I have already finished the whole application process. dang it! even still... i find this site great because it provides invaluable info and resources, even post-apps.

A piece of (I think) factually useful advice:

AADSAS is a money grubing Wh*** that does not care about you, or your application. That's why none of my schools have gotten my transcripts or LORs even though the application was mailed to the schools weeks ago.

So... if I were you, I would go down to transcript office and the career center and manually mail all your schools your transcipts and LORs.

That way, when they do process your app. you won't get a bunch of annyoing postcards reminders about missing application materials from the schools, then hop on a plane to washington DC and go on an all-day all-AADSAS killing-spree (bad for your criminal record and what not 🙂
