So i am a first year resident and i took a leave of absence for 2 weeks, because i am burnt out, and my pd thinks i need to improve my performance, what do i do?
Take the leave of absence and then heal.

Then get as much feedback from your PD and peers.

Do not be a noncompliant patient. You're going to have plenty of those as is.

I think the biggest thing is to take a break and take care of yourself first. Then, elicit honest feedback from your PD, your attendings, your seniors, etc. Figure out specifically what is wrong--is it your presentations? Are you inefficient? Patient care problems resulting in safety issues? Unprofessional behavior?

Simply trying to "be better" without knowing what's wrong in the first place will likely end in disaster. It will be painful to get negative feedback, but it's necessary to take that feedback to heart in order for you to stand a chance of progressing.
