Hi,

I am currently a Senior and have taken MCAT twice, but both time my mcat score was not up to the mark. So, now I am considering to go to Ross University. Here's my stats:

State: Illinois
Major: Biochemistry
cGPA: 3.79
Major GPA: 3.85
MCAT 1: 25: 10ps, 6vr, 9bs
MCAT 2: 27: 11ps, 6vr, 10bs

I have done research for about 1 and half year, volunteered at a hospital for a semester, members of few clubs, and few other activity such as tutoring, etc.

I was planning to apply for 2011, but with a vr score of 6, there is no way I'll get into a US med. school. I am planning to take my MCAT for the third time next year hoping to improve my vr score, but if I don't, I was planning to attend Ross University.

So my question is with these stats what are my chances of getting in at Ross? In addition, lets say I get accepted for the January term, but I want to wait to find out if I got accepted anywhere in US, is there a way I can make a request to extend my acceptance to the following term. The reason I want to apply for January term is that if I don't get in in January, then I can apply again for the next term. Also, by December I will have my MCAT scores and I will know if I have any chance in US med schools. Hence, i will only waste 6 months, rather than a year.

Any input will be highly appreciated and Thank You for your help in advance.

Do you have issues with the DO degree? You will have a decent chance at DO schools with your stats. If were you, I would try DO before heading to ROSS because coming from the caribbean will put you at a disadvantage when it is time to apply for residency. Carib students are having a tough time nowadays getting residencies and I promise it will get tougher year after year.

Ya, I have, but most schools require one letter of recommendation from a DO or MD which I don't have. I only have recommendation letter from my professors. So, the chance of me getting in a DO is very slim too. Hence, I considering Ross University.

strongly with the above.

Find a DO to shadow for a few days and get a letter. Residencies are getting harder and harder for Carib grads to get.

DO schools just want the letter b/c they like people with clinical experience. Just call up your local medical society and find a couple of docs to shadow. You can get a DO letter. I agree w/above.

I also think with proper tutoring perhaps you could get your MCAT verbal score up. Your other subscores are fine. Also you can work on the essay section. If you do well then maybe you can use that to argue the verbal score is a fluke. Even if you get it up to 8 or 9 maybe you could get into U of Illinois. You should at least consider DO schools. It would be better than the Carib. I'm a US MD grad and I'm in fellowship and I'm telling you there are a lot more DO's running around the more "academic"/desirable US residencies than there are Carib grads. There's one guy from Ross @my current med center who is a resident, and no other Caribs that I know of.
