Is there a certain GPA past which it doesn't really matter anymore? I can imagine that there is a difference between a 3.72 and a 3.82, but is there still a distinct difference in terms of 3.82 and 3.86?

Ya, the cut off for a couple schools I know of is 3.75-3.80,

At another I know of its 3.60

yes. there is, in fact, a difference of 0.04.

um, what? do you mean they won't look at anything HIGHER than this?

I've heard of a school give people additional points for having 3.9+

I sort of thought it would be the other way around and that 3.9-4.0 would be almost no difference. I have read on here that having a 4.0 would be like having a nice EC on your app, not much more, not much less.

When you look at mdapps it seems that GPA doesn't really matter beyond maybe 3.75 or 3.8, and MCAT doesn't really matter beyond about 34 or 35. Higher numbers won't necessarily make you any more appealing to the admissions committees.

I don't know about that.... I would say the higher the better but the gain after say a 3.75 is less and less compared to that between a 3.5 and a 3.75.

Certain schools that use point systems give you additional points for certain achievements. At this particular school applicants receive additional points for having 3.9+ GPA.

I meant that after a 3.75-3.8, they give all the gpa's the same weight and the same amount of points are added to the applicant.

Nice. Will you PM me the school name? I won't tell anyone else. I'm trying to figure out where I might be a strong reapplicant next cycle and I need all the help I can get.

You're a strong reapplicant anywhere dude. 3.95 / 39? Your in the top couple percent of applicants in terms of numbers.
