Hey guys,
I'm not posting this to brag I just wanted to share my joy with those of you that really love OBGyn. I just got my grade in OBGyn today and I recieved High Honors and the Program Director wrote some incredible things in his evaluation. It was such a great feeling especially since my step 1 was not all that great. I've been pretty bummed about my step 1 grade but this news has really made me feel great.
Just thought I would share that with you guys.

That is fantastic! It is always a great joy to get high honors!

I am heading towards OB/GYN as well and would like some advice. What do you think made the difference in your case with regards to your grades and LORs?

When I first started my OB rotation I had no interest in going into obgyn. I actually remember telling a buddy of mine on the morning of my first day that I couldnt wait till the rotation was over so I could focus on internal medicine. I immediately fell in love with OB and it was confirmed after rotating through other fields, especially IM.

I basically really showed an interest in the field. I did everything they asked and never complained. I was extremely nice to the ob nurses and even the janitors (which actually came up in my oral exam!!!)

I went to the PD's office and told his secretary that I really was interested in the field. They immediately hooked me up with the research dept and I started to do research. The secretary set up an interview for me with the PD and when we met he even told me that when I apply he will offer me a spot outside match.

I really think that it was the fact that I made it known that I was interested in going into ob backed by proving it with a great attitude (even when scutted) got me my grade and LOR.

When you do the rotation you will see that the majority of the students wont want to go into it so you should use that to be the one that everyone knows wants to go into it.

Good luck!

Congrats!

Just a guess, but I'll bet your natural interest also led you to read more, listen more, and learn more in general. Lots of students fake interest, but you have to back it up with substance, and it sounds like you did. As excited as you are about this grade, you are obviously into OB. Again, way to go!
