Does anyone what percentage of students on a give clinical rotation get a grade of pass vs. high pass vs. honors? I've gotten a high pass on every single thing so far and I have no idea if that means I'm doing well or if it just means I'm not in the bottom 10%.

This varies by school. US medical schools have different standards and even different grading schemes. It varies from a 2 point scale to a 5 point scale and they call grades different things, ie Honors = 5 = A = Excellent = whatever other crazy schemes are out there. Some schools give the top grade to 50% of students some to only 10%.

The best way to find out what a grade means at your school is to check out an MSPE from a graduating class. They have to put what percentage of people get each grade. This is so residencies can detect grade inflation which is rampant at lower tier schools (applies to me). Contact your academic affairs office for the stats for your school.

Generally, Honors is the best grade at good schools and about 10% of students get it. Also, subjective grading is complete BS...

your dean is probably the only one that knows. it varies by school and rotation. honors is anywhere from 5% to 40% of the class, but the dean's letters all say what the grade breakdown is for each rotation at your school.

All you know is that it is better than average and not the best grade you can get.

No matter what type of inflation is going on, you have to do what you can to get that honor. But it doesn't much matter unless you are going for a competitive residency.

where does "Honors" or "high pass" come in when you have a A, A-, B+, B, B- system?

Honors = A/A+

High Pass = B+/A-

Pass = C/B
