Is attendance a factor when colleges decide to accept or decline you? I missed 60 days of school this year (sophomore). Basically it was just me being lazy and stupid. I managed to pull all B's for my classes. I plan on going every day my junior year. So did I screw up?

It depends, partly on what type of school you're looking at (Ivies and top schools may care, but lower-tier schools probably won't).

It also depends on whether it shows up on your transcript, as some schools don't include this. Another thing to think about is whether teachers will mention it in their recommendations (he/she could have done a lot better if they showed up more often).

Fortunately, you still have plenty of time to make up. Just don't continue to be routinely absent. The fact that you have decent grades is in your favor, but you still have to work on your attendance record next year.

Good luck!

Yeah, i plan on going to a liberal arts college here in a small town in Pennsylvania. I'll definitley kick this habit in time for letters of recommendation. Thanks.

You can miss 60 days at your school and not lose credit? Dang.

Attendance doesn't matter. Some of the smartest kids in my graduating class (notably a student in my film class), treated school as an every other day activity... He's going to UofC.

This is definitely a good point, but depends on the teacher.

No, it's not too late. But if you are "stupid and lazy," you might want to consider a new career field.

In my high school for every unexcused absence you'd lose 2% of your grade in that day's classes. It was a boarding school though so that's probably why it was so strict.

Attend school. That is just a bad habit to develop and it says to me you are lazy. You won't get into a good college, let alone a medical school by being lazy. Only some one who is exceptionally intelligent would be able to pull that off and most of us are not. Besides effort counts more than anything.

It's not how "smart" you are (whatever that means) it's how hard you try.
