I was wondering how much impact high school grades have on admissions for those school that request high school transcripts? I was looking at UCLA's school of dentistry website and saw that they request high school transcripts in addition to the rest of the application and I am starting to freak out a little because my high school grades were s***!!! I also read somewhere on their website regarding the class of 2004 that "...Sixty-one (of the 88 matriculated first year students) were ranked by their high school with the average rank of 17 out of a class of 225 and an average GPA of 3.77." WIll I still Have a chance with a 3.9 GPA and a low ~3.4 high school GPA? Any thoughts? 🙁

I didn't even graduate high school and I was fine.

I had exactly the same question on my mind when I applied to UCLA. First of all, chill and don't worry. It is not even going to be remotely harmful to you if your other stats are legit. Second, why would they request high school transcript? This is my take, and I ran this idea with my dentist who was a graduate of UCLA. Basically, the idea is that they want to know if you went to high school in the US. Because in the past there were student who had awesome grades, but couldn't communicate well in English and that frustrated some of the professors. By showing a high school transcript, it demonstrates that you went to high school in the US, and that you had that many years of English speaking skills. That's all! So... chill, and don't worry even if your GPA is low.
