I'm a high school senior about to go into pre-med. I've always wanted to become an orthopedic surgeon. but I feel totally underprepared and not at all like I'm a qualifying candidate.
I took advanced classes in high school but I'm in the top 33% of my class. I've done multiple clubs in high school. But I still don't feel as if I can succeed the way I want too. I'm feeling a bit average. I guess my question is if... If anyone else felt this way going into pre med. or if everyone who knew they wanted to be a doctor knew they were going to succeed.

Did you post this in the "osteopathic" forum because you misread it as "orthopedic" or think it has to do with being a bone doctor?

If you're not even college yet, you have a long time to get yourself ready. Don't freak out.

Can we move this to pre-osteo since OP isn't even a pre-med yet?

Is "pre-med" an official thing at colleges now?

Why don't you think you can succeed in college? Do you even know where you're going yet?

Neurotic has reached to a new level. This pre-med isn't even in college. You probably don't even know that orthopedic surgery is the one of the ultra competitive specialties. Do well in college and get into med school first, then maybe, just maybe, you have a small chance to become an orthopod.

I shadowed all types of surgeons to find the place I felt I would fit best. I know things change and that might I not even make it in or that I might just chose a different career. But I just wanted advice from those who had succeeded far enough to be able to give any type of advice.
