Hi guys,

I just have a couple of questions about interning. I am going to start to shadowing my Dentist soon, and I plan on going there 8 hrs a week for a while. But I was interested in interning somewhere where I can get paid. I know, it should only be for the experience, yet getting paid would be nice. Are there any summer programs/ internship opportunities for HIGH SCHOOL students. I live in Philadelphia, so preferably close to home. Any programs that you guys have been though that you may recommend?

You see, I feel as though getting this shadowing opportunity (probably being able to register 200+ hrs shadowing my local Dentist) would be great even in High School and would boost my chance of getting into dental school as well as allow me to learn.

Any comments that could help would be great!

P.S I'm A junior and I don't necessarily know whether the hours for shadowing are necessary, but why not.. But if I could get a paid internship somewhere, I'd MUCH rather do that.

honestly, i think 8 hours a week is a bit excessive. Just go 2 hours a week and by the time you apply you'll have more than enough hours. If you insist on shadowing 8 hours a week, spread it apart among different specialties. I think your time is better spent studying for the SAT
's and mastering AP bio, chem, and physics.

This changes if you're applying to UOP's accelerated program though.

True, I will probably do less hours, but I mean, after this year (junior) I will not have anything to do during Senior year, and I'd rather get paid and do something I want to be a professional in rather than work at some food joint for minimum wage.. Plus I'm sure Dentistry Schools would love to see me putting many hard hours into shadowing/interning at a young age.
