Hello. I'm a noob :luck:.

This year is my senior and final year of high school.

My goal is to become a dentist, and I'm definitely inexperienced when it comes to all information concerning dentistry.

I just joined this forum today and noticed terms like DAT and AADSAS.

Can someone explain what these are in detail? (DAT is the test and AADSAS is the application, but that's all I know.)

Thank you very much.

www.ada.org + read old threads/do a search + start shadowing if you haven't. Good luck.

I am a HS senior also with dental school in mind. I joined this forum about a week ago. It has been a real education following the threads on the forum. I have learned so much. The forum has answered many question regarding admissions, DAT, application process, pre-recqs etc.One thing I have learned is that these dudes are stressssssssssssssssssed to the max 😱 😱 😱 😱

Just sign on daily and follow the threads, its cheap entertainment and beats the hell out of studing, this is why all the predents are on it, the alternative is to be studying. 👎

Wow you all are in high school...go have some fun!
We are having fun watching ya'll stress about LOR's, shadowing dentists, GPA's, sub par GPA's, top tier school, non competitive schools, rejection letters, acceptance letters yada, yada, yada. This is more fun than watching paint dry, and educational too 🙂

What is LOR?

And shadowing dentists is basically residency... right?

LOR's are Letters of Recomendation and shadowing is clinical observation prior to applying to dental school, folowing a dentist around in his office. I suppose each school has a numbr of shadowing hours that they would like you to have.

although most schools don't actually require shadowing. it is highly recommended. i don't think any school would accept you without shadowing hours..

some schools do require you to verify your hours though..

LOR = letter of recommendation

Residency = not required (shadowing = not residency either)

go to college(3-4 yrs.), do good, go to d-school (4 yrs.), do good --> start working <--no residency.... sweet deal huh? well, its hard work to get there, but doable. gluck

speedy
