hey, i'm new here, this is my first post actually. yea, i'm still a senior in high school and i'm planning to attend cal state fullerton. i wanna become a pharmacist and i wanna know what to expect. what major should i major in? are there any specific majors that pharmacy schools want? i've been reading some topics saying its not really necessary, but i wanna know again lol. i'm just nervous u know? if its not really necessary then i think i'm gonna major in either nursing or music....

anyways, what if, just WHAT IF i have a bad gpa? most ppl who dream about being pharmacists are pretty darn smart right? but i don't think i am...so just what if? are there any schools that are pretty easy to get into? plus i'm going to a cal state, so does that affect my chances in getting into a pharm school?

yea, what are the steps to get into a pharmacy school? all i know right now is 4 years of college and 4 years of pharm school. is it possible to get into one in 2 years?? i mean, if i have a 4.0 gpa and all...

ok! thats all the questions i have for now, i swear i had more before, but i guess i can't think of any all of the sudden. thanx in advance. sorry if something like this was posted up already..

Major in MUSIC! If you are good at it, it is a VERY EASY major. It is fun too!

If you only want to do pharmacy, take the easiest major possible and just do well in the prerequisite courses. That is it!

I play classical piano myself. And it makes you look more interesting to a professional school than a science major, even though your science background will not be as good once you are in.

Also, have you applied to the University of Sciences in Philadelphia (Philadelphia College of Pharmacy)? They are the oldest college of pharmacy and they ONLY TAKE STUDENTS RIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL. You should try there. See if you get in and how much money they will give you. They are a 0+6 program.

If you do go to Cal State Fullerton, apply after two years, and apply OUTSIDE OF CALIFORNIA! California almost reminds me of China within the U.S., one of the most competitive states, if not the MOST COMPETITIVE, especially UCSD and UCSF. Hence you will have to take the PCAT. Apply to Nova Southeastern in FL (good, private school) which takes a lot of people from FL right from community college after two years.
The people at Nova are really nice and the school has had a 100% pass rate on the NAPLEX in the last few years.

To save the most time, complete two years at Fullerton, and then apply to the three-year programs at UOP, South, and MCPHS-Worcester. As well as four year programs at Nova and Palm Beach Atlantic in FL, and some other private schools, Campbell in NC, and Shenandoah in VA, Mercer in Atlanta. I think though that most California schools want four-year degrees at least I know that is the case with UCSF and UCSD. USN (southern nevada) also has a three-year program but no federal loan programs which is very bad.

Hence do two years at Fullerton followed by a three-year program (either at UOP in CA, South in Savannah, GA and MCPHS-Worcester in Worcester, MA = (only one more year of school beyond a bachelors to become a pharmacist = 5 years!)

Apply to Nova Southeastern in FL (good, private school) which takes a lot of people from FL right from community college after two years.

Do you really think it's significantly less competitive to get in these private schools outside of California as opposed to Cali schools? I'm planning on applying to a few of them myself. These are pharm D. programs you're talking about at these schools right?

Yes, every single one of the programs that I mentioned is an accredited program. By all means try! Otherwise, you never know.

u of pacific also takes kids out of high school only for their 5 year, but i think there's some stipulations. Good luck, just do your best.

St. Louis College of Pharmacy (stlcop.edu) is a 0-6 program. UMKC is a 1-5 but they early accept some straight out of high school.

Oh dear God, music is NOT that easy. I suppose it would be spread over 4 years, but it's incredibly time consuming! And a lot of the classes are one unit or two units. You have music history, music analysis, ethnomusicology, performances, juries, lessons, ensembles, musicianship, counterpoint, and form and analysis, and perhaps a keyboard proficiency... it's pretty much a combination of any of those classes every quarter.

Last year, I had to take 24-28 units of classes per quarter just to finish my major and do science classes by going to two colleges. One a university and the other a CC. There are a lot more easier majors to take than music.
And I still finish in four years. And not any sooner than that.

Aim for pharmacy, and if you don't think you can get the 3.3 GPA (or even lower) after 1 semester or whatever, then choose a different career path. It really isn't that hard to get a 3.3, even if you aren't very intelligent. If you work your ABSOLUTE hardest, then I don't see any reason why you couldn't get into Pharmacy, unless you are on the stupid end.

A 3.3 might be hard to get if you don't try. But with maximum effort, it shouldn't be a problem.
