This is not actually the case. Most people who get those scores post on here because they are proud of their score or wish to help others with breakdowns. Most people who get average scores just don't take the time to make threads on here about it.

I PERSONALLY think some people lie/inflate their scores quite a bit on here...but hey, maybe it's just me.
you guys didn't all get 32ts/32aa/32pat? 
Sorry. I think it was the bad images I got for one of the answer choices in Gchem and one of the questions on PAT that got me so much less than that :/ (sarcasm) I did get those bad images though. stupid white pages with red x's showing up :/

👍 . Imagine how many people take the test and have never seen any of the PAT stuff. I'm sure there's a good chunk of em.

Maybe the AVG is going up? who has the latest statistics?
I mean with all the good study aids, it's normal for avgs to go up.
Several years ago, a 19 was suppose to be like a 21+ of today...
who knows, maybe this year people applying are generally stronger (i hope this is not the case 😀)

i dont think the numbers you see on SDN are an accurate representation of ALL the students who apply to dental schools. the people on this site are super motivated and unless you did really well or really badly why would you publicly report your scores to strangers?
yes, there is an upward trend in DAT but that upward trend is it was from 18/19 averages to 19/20..not jumping to 25.

Does anyone know the actual DAT averages 10, 20, 30 years ago? Maybe the dentist you shadowed or if one of your parents is a dentist remembers...
All of the dentists I have asked(some who have only been practicing for three or four years) do not remember what they made... seems kind of weird to me. I feel like I'll never forget! Maybe they are just embarrassed of their scores and how much the average has gone up....?
Anyway, I am just curious as to what the answer is to this. I can't seem to find any information on this topic. I know that when I was a freshman in college(4 years ago) all of the seniors were discussing their DAT scores in a pre-dental society meeting and NO ONE made above a 17 and they ALL attended dental school... Interesting to see that the avg of matriculation has jumped from a 17 to a 19 in this short of time...

Back then the DAT wasnt something you really studied for (from what I've heard). My uncle is ~40 yr old and got a 24 when he took the DAT back in the day.

I think most people will be pleasantly surprised if they put in a lot of practice. After doing destroyer/kaplan subject tests for 2 months I thought for sure that I was going to get 18 or 19, but ended up surprising myself. ADA sample test and Topscore were perfect indicators of my actual performance.

I agree, I think there is way to much discussion on how high your DAT score should be... I personally hate how whenever someone does a "What are my chances post" with a 3.7 GPA and a 19 DAT, everyone says RETAKE!!!!! Ya, a 20+ is safe, but come on... most school AVERAGES are 18-19. Admission into dental school isn't only based on your DAT score(as so many people seem to think), a lot of other factors are considered...
Anyway, about the old DAT scores... I just want to know for my own personal knowledge. I know one of the dentist I shadowed said she didn't study for the DAT (but she also didn't remember her score). That's mostly why I was curious.
Like I said before, if the DAT average jumped from a 17 to a 19 in the past couple of years... how much do you think it has increased since the '70s?
The dentist I shadowed said that she just went in and took the DAT - she's had her practice for eight years, so this was a little while ago... Like others have been saying, I think that back then studying for the DAT wasn't a big thing; there wasn't Kaplan or all the other courses/books to take and study. You just reviewed from your lecture notes and took the test.
