I hear that Columbia is one of the most stress-high schools. Is it true? if it is, is it because most of your classmates want to specialize and compete each other for Honors grade?
How bout living in the Harlem area? Is it really dangerous? Do you have place to work out?

you might want to do something about that thread title. i came here thinking entirely of something else.

you're going to be stressed no matter where you go. Every school is going to have its gunners. Dont get roped into this "School X is way more stressful than other schools"...its pointless.

it's stressful...period. especially when you have 16 exams in a span of 4 months (and 9 exams in the final four weeks). But then again, i'm sure every school is equally stressful (especially the case if you really want that honors grade.) There's the stress of having to get the lab work done on time while studying for like 10 different classes. everyone survives though, and you just gotta put a little more time and effort than when you did at undergrad.

Ditto. Mostly everyone survives. There were a couple at my school that didn't. I don't think they were really prepared for dental school to begin with though.

I live right near the Columbia Dental school and can tell you about it. The immediate area (2 block radius) is pretty nice around the medical center. However this is Washington Heights and it is pretty much what you would expect of the ghetto. You can check out the crime statistics at http://www.columbia.edu/cu/facets/0708_safety.pdf mostly people getting mugged and jumped. The Armory is located right across the street from the school and that is where a lot the homeless people gather and I've heard them bother a few people, I guess just try to avoid that side of the street. Some people can live here and some cannot, just make sure you think about it. The campus is nice and the area is really up and coming though, so don't just brush it off as the dumps.

As far as working out, I would say the best place would be to hope on the number 1 train and take 20 minute ride downtown to the morningside campus, there is a really nice gym there. If you want to run track, I would say the New Balance track located in the Armory is the nicest around.

Like others have said, you'll only be at your highest stress level in dental school if you want to specialize, otherwise you'll be stressed every once in a while but for the most part you will pass your classes given you put forth some sort of effort.

I agree with this. It is pretty tough to pull out an A but not difficult to pass.
