I am currently a student at the University of Hawaii with a high semester GPA of 3.5 and a LOW AMCAS GPA (which include failing grades). I have not taken the MCAT yet. (I am considered a Freshman) 😳
My first year of college was rough. I was not serious about school and ended up not going to classes, but did not withdraw.🙁 My second semester I was stalked by a student and then attacked on campus, following another failed semester and academic dismissal. I went to court with this individual and the case was settled. (I took a year off of school.) I met with counselors and an adviser. I also attended sessions with the school registrar. I went back to school (with letter from the courts explaining the circumstances) and received a 3.5 last semester. 😀
On the Dean's list! Yippie!!
My question is, what are my chances...?
If I continue to do the same or better, the classes I retook will bring my cumulative GPA to a 3.5 or higher. BUT (and this is a BIG "but") no matter how well I do, because of those 7 failing grades I have, my AMCAS GPA will NEVER be above a 3.2 even if I get a 4.0 GPA every semester for the next few years...😕
Being a doctor is my dream, ad I am not sure if I should give up because this GPA issue, or do I keep trying... Any advice? Thank you!
P.S. I don't want to get into an Ivy league school or anything, I would really like to get into JABSOM, because of the emphasis of care they have for the types of people and medical diseases that highly impact the people of Hawaii.
