High Yield Lung and High Yield Heart have been published ard should be available at your local medical bookstore. High Yield Kidney will be published in early May.
These 3 books are part of a new seriesthat I am writing that covers material from a Systems approach versus a subject/discipline approach.
For example: In the High Yield LUng book, I cover the Embryology, Gross Anatomy , Radiology, Histology, Physiology, Pathology, Microbiology, and Pharmacology of the lung. The book is about 125 pages. The same goes for the High Yield Heart and HIgh Yield Kidney books.

Some stundets prefer to study in a systems approach and some curriculum teach with a systems approach. Take a look at these books. I think you will like them.

There already is a HY Biochemistry book. I did not write it but it is very good. I have read it.

I am writing HY Genetics and HY GI Tract right now.

Are these books meant for study of USMLE/COMLEX, or are they to "integrate our knowledge for the clinicals years"... bottom line, would it be a good idea to use this books vs. first aid?

If you like to study in the systems style then the HY Systems books are the best books out there. Much better than First Aid even though First Aid has a big reputation. The HY Systems will allow you to start with the Pathology from which a clinical vignette question will be designed and then all the information whether histology, gross, pharm, or physio is all there in one book.

If you do not like the systems style and prefer to study each subject individually then by all means use the other high yield books, like biochem, gross anatomy, etc.. The HY Histology book is also very good. A lot of students call HY Histology the "secret weapon" to pass Step 1.

No, it's HY Histo --- the title is misleading because the book contains a lot more than just histology.

While I think it is cool to get an author on here to ask questions. But does anyone else get the feeling Dudek is trying to trash other sources and promote his own?

Histology has gotten that reputation as the lowest yield. However, my HY Histology is NOT the traditional histology book. It is a blend of physiology, pathology, and pharm along with histology. It has alot of the highest yield clinical scenarios you will encounter on the USMLE Step 1. It is great book that is being overlooked by many because of the "lowest yield" reputation and the title of the book. I have re-named the new edition (out soon) to HY Histopathology so that students will give it a closer look and the new editon has clinical vignettes that are excellent.

If you like the systems approach, then yes the HY Systems book are very good for Step 1. Some students like the subject approach so then you can use the other HY books.
The USMLE step 1 is morphing to questions that are more clinical vignettes that then bring in some basic science concept. So, the HY
Systems books have all the basic science information (embryology, gross, physiology, pharm, micro) you will be tested on in one nice place.
I would just go to the bookstore and look one over. You will know if it fits your style pretty quickly.

any chance of getting it earlier? I ask because most of us wil be taking step 1 around mid June - really wouldn't wanna pick up a brand new book then and start reading it for the first time........

If you do not want to wait until May, I would buy the HY Histology 3rd edition. The 4th edition is not that much different just improvements. You will get alot out of HY Histology 3rd edition.
