I took my first pcat in Jan 09, but it was not good. I am going to retake it in Aug 09, so I want to have higher grade.

My composite was 40%. The worst part was verbal/reading. Because I
am an international student, it was hard when I studied and even took the test.

Can anyone give the tips and good materials for studying verbal/reading section? Also, how do I study for bio and ochem?
I used Kplan, but it was not helpful for me.

Biology is just a lot of memorization. You have to figure out what technique works best for you and then do it. I am a visual reader so looking at the material and just trying to memorize it works for me. Some people need to hear it. I think there are some PCAT tapes out there if that describes you.
Some people need to write the material over and over. I can tell you if you can take a concept and be able to draw a picture and describe it in an essay, you probably know it pretty well.

For organic, I might start picking off easy points in chunks. Know your functional groups. If you can tell an ester from an ether, for example, you can answer that question in seconds. Get an old textbook and practice nomenclature. Be able to do bond angles, hybridization, and molecular geometry in an instant. If you can do all that, you will pick up a bunch of points. Once you are solid in that, then start learning the reactions.

I didn't study for either reading comprehension or verbal so I can't help you there. Perhaps you can practice reading each day by reading some of the major newspapers or science magazines each day.

hey , being an international student i hope u took SAT or GRE rigt??
if not do some words from barron's 3500 wor lists . dont try to memorize all at once just tick mark important ones and do 30 words daily morning and revise in evening. next morning do another 30 words and revise previous day's 30 words... revise them frequently thts only way for us international students..and it takes 20 min only..if possible prefer to write them... for reading just read any novel or newspaper and underline the ard words then find meaning read at least one or two pages and u will catch speed automatically both for words and reading.. i know its boring but once u will do it for 15 days u will see difference in yr scores.

for bio and chem i m too in dialemma in wht to read but i heard Dr.collin's guides are good. also u can read some pre university books for elements, bonds and orbitals etc.
in bio just make diagrams and mark them u will remember them instently.. dont go in theories..u can cram some important words like the muscle attached, the specific tissue, compositions etc etc in few lines along with diagrams..
