I was just wondering if anyone has ever hired a professional consultant (eg, not your school's pre-med advisor) for applying to medical school?

One of my parents' friends hired a college consultant for his daughter; I was wondering if something similar was used for medical school.

If so, do you think it helped?

Thanks!

Why would you ever waste money on that???? Thousands of applicants are successful without any consultants.... Just do your research, and you'll be fine.

SEARCH your questions here, and you'll find that everything you're wondering has been answered.

SDN knows all. We all have personal experience that admissions consultants can only get from their students who peruse this site. So save your money and put it into another secondary.

When you want your car worked on you go to mechanic.

If you want to hire a consultant I would make sure its a person that has done this before and has some sort of expertise. Im not saying its the right choice but if you want to do it go ahead. I cant really seeing any "negatives" coming from it.

For all you people that say use SDN, why would the OP use SDN if they have the means to hire a consultant?

I have a friend of a friend (so take that at face value) who supposedly spent thousands on an "admissions consult" for med school. The guy got in ... guess I can't say more than that. I'd seriously use SDN ... as much as I respect someone with the business prowess to set up an admission consulting gig, this site, for all its crap, is golden at the core. I'm positive I wouldn't have been able to navigate the entire process without it ... and I'm sure I'll fall back on it many, many times throughout school and residency.

However, I don't think I'll ever miss the MD vs DO, Caribbean, URM, etc, threads ... :meanie:
