Hey guys, I'm a sophomore Hispanic Studies major and I'm starting to get really worried about Med School application. I just keep thinking about the stats and think that I'm not going to get into any medical schools. I have a 3.53 overall gpa (after basically screwing myself over and getting a B- in Intro Bio 2nd semester Freshman year) and a 3.25 science gpa. I was wondering if you think there's any positive benefits out of being a Hispanic Studies major and if it's a common major for Pre-med students? Thanks so much! 😛 🙂

Med schools like humanities majors in general. If you are also hispanic that might help you out a little... I think your trippin' too early, your a sophomore, you have a LOT of time left. Remember that you still have to finish your pre-med classes AND mcat on top of your major. I did my mcats right after graduating, you might choose to do that to boost your gpa (instead of studying for mcats during junior year). Overall, don't worry, just study hard as F#CK!

Oh man. There's NOTHING to be worried about at this point. Yes, you want to get it together and make sure that you do the best you can, but please don't stress about your GPA at this point. You're only at the beginning of your sophomore year, so you've got at least another year of grades to add to your GPA. Besides, your science GPA isn't just bio, there's chem, organic, physics, calc, any other science classes...get my point? You've got plenty of requirements left to boost your grades.

The good thing about being a sophomore--you've got plenty of time to boost grades...the bad thing about being a sophomore--you've got plenty of time time to boost your grades!

Hang in there, study hard, and you'll be fine. Besides, just kick some major butt on the MCAT and you can prove that no matter what your grades say, you learned something in your science classes!

breathe and chill 🙂 and yes, hispanic studies is just fine as a premed major -- you will stand out, and Spanish fluency is looked at very favorably. I was a declared Latin American studies major for a year and interviewers at both interviews thus far commented on how great that was.
