Does anyone know a good online forum for histology help?
We are having issues with formalin salt carryover (clogging processor valves) that we cannot seem to solve and I wanted to ask some histopros/medtech people.
In case we have any sleepers on this forum: We are having issues with formalin salts clogging our processor valves. We use biopsy sponges. Sometimes we throw 275 cassettes in a run. I go from formalin to 70% to 80% to 95%, etc., so it gets a decent rinse. I have this problem on my VIP5 and my ASP300s. On the ASP300s it always clogs in station 4 which is our 80%. We swap the 70% and 80% out every other day because as I understand it, they get saturated quickly, and when it is saturated, the salt precipitates out and clogs up the machine. Does anyone else encounter this? One of the service people told me to go from formalin to distilled water to 70 to 80, the distilled water should rinse out all the formalin. Any thoughts on that?
