Based on prev. years... anyone know what is the likelihood that unfilled positions are going to arise between now and July? I mean, if its anything like the current rate of next to nil... I should just pack it in. I would have thought more positions would be unfilled.

A small number of people are unable to start in their matched positions, either due to:

1. Something happens that they fail to graduate from medical school.
2. They cannot get a visa
3. Some life altering event occurs in their life / health issue.
4. They cannot pass a pre-employment physical

Also, a small number of positions open after the match because programs expand, someone resigns, etc.

Some fields maintain a centrallized list of these positions. Many do not. In that case, you need to simply try to contact programs (which is difficult, since there are so many)

Thank you,

Here's to hoping something comes up. Whenever something does arise (usually on a friday, at 4:59pm when everyone leaves the office) it's always a battle of Do I pay and send all my info asap via ERAS? Or should I wait until Monday to get more details and not waste $25. Past 3 times I just applied -- only to find out the program was actually filled and someone posted it by mistake, or they don't offer a visa.

I would expect that most positions that open from now until next year will be outside of ERAS/NRMP. For the most part, most programs are shutting down their ERAS once they get their new interns credentialed.
