I have come across conflicting info while preparing for Step II with regards to HIV/AIDS and pregnancy. Does anyone know what the effect of pregnancy is on the progression from HIV to AIDS? I have seen two books, one which states that there is no effect and the other which states that it speeds up the progression from HIV to AIDS in the mother. Also, just for clarification, this progression is typically quicker in infants born with HIV than in adults who contract it later in life, correct?

Thanks for your help.

Acutally I don't think that it does anything to the mother, but for the infant it is variable. PArtially depends on the viral load and how it's aggressively it's been treated with AZT. But for Boards, who knows? I've seen it differently between Q bank and NMS.
