So I got a job offer from McDonald's but I also got into Harvard Med, I'm having a really tough time deciding. On the one hand Harvard is like the best medical school but I mean at McDonald's I could eat as many Big Mac's as I'd like it, and if I impress the hamburglar I'm bound to move up. So it's a tough situation, I really need to know your guys' opinions of the two so you can choose my future career path.

I was gonna do one of these before, but i made a sarcastic crack on the last forum about what great med school to choose from and some people got their panies in a bunch. Well Done

In terms of ideology they are equal. But er uh, sheaat the big mac alone is mur than pop' lr dan the Har 'verd stuff.

Heck, I choos', Har 'verd wit a month ly and move er to boston with a truck a load of katch 'up and dem famous a big macs. Oh, wat the heck, I am el ready he 're, I'll take the big o mac.

I don't know, Between McDonald's and HMS, I would choose HMS.
But, if it were between being a sententious asshat of a barista at Starbucks who refuses to acknowledge when I say "small" rather then venbullsh¡ti or whatever the hell it's called and then after like a minute sells me the brown swill they call coffee or HMS, I would choose Starbucks in a heartbeat.

McDonald's definitely has better name recognition than Harvard does. It's the most prestigious fast-food restaurant in the world.

I did always want to know what was in the secret sauce.

I heard their hamburgers are 45% meal worm, but they can still legally call them burgers because they are more than half beef. I still eat them.

There is only one thing you have to ask yourself.

Have you had your break today?

Pffftt.....like this is even a decision. I would pick McD over Harvard any day. Here are the reasons:
(a) Location - chances are there's a McD near where you live so no expensive moves.
(b) Better PR - You got McD mascots: Ronald, Grimace, Hamburglar and that girl who has a beak (I forgot her name), and what mascot does Harvard have....that's right nada.
(c) Ranking - HMS and McD are deadlocked on that one but McD has better financial backings than HMS.

Keep in mind that McDonald's is actually paying YOU to go there...no amount of prestige is worth being $200,000 in debt! The average layman won't really care, and your colleagues at the fryer will still respect you.

I thought that was just thousand island dressing.

HMS is ranked one in USNews while McDonald's is only 109 in the Fortune 500 so it's clear that HMS is the way to go if want prestige in the industry that you choose.

Does Harvard have singing chicken McNuggets? I didn't think so.

I always use the ounces...like 12 oz. House please...and they make fun of me. It's so annoying.

Get a job at burger kings!!! forget mickey deez and HMS...they're trash

Hmmmmmmmmm.......very difficult choice....totally understand that you wold like us to help you decided where your true heart lies....as far as prestige......you can't go wrong with a mac, but on the other hand......an MD sounds nice. If you truly want to be in a profession where you help people, then McDonalds is THE career path. Imagine standing in front of a person in need and you being able to ask the most crucial question ever............do you want fries with that?!?!?!?!?!

if we were at a bar and you told me you were recently promoted to MANAGER of a McD's establishment, versus some lowly med student at HMS who gets crapped on by interns/residents who in turn get crapped on by their attendings, i'd hit on you.

edit: hey guys, remember this? mac tonight!

No, you really don't. Ignorance is a much better policy when it comes to fast food.

Well...

McDonalds = +$6/hr
Harvard = -$19.23/hr (assuming a 40 hour work week)

Hmm...

I believe McDonald's sponsors Hamburger University. So looks like you can have your cake and eat it too.

In both cases you will end up working with obese patients with heart disease and cholesterol issues. You are far more likely to get the competitive specialty of your dreams (fries?) at McDs. And McD employees are hardly ever named individually in lawsuits by patrons. An easy choice.

:luck: shamrock shake anyone? :luck:

those things were always kind of gross to me. yuck!!!

Didn't you guys watch "supersize me"? Every time I think about it, the thought of McDonald's just turns my stomach.

The thread title reminded me of Wertt's make-your-own-rejection post, which was hilarious.

I worked at the McDonald's at HMS for a semester. That's where I met my HMS interviewers. You meet lots of important people at McDonald's and make pretty important connections. We joked around about our McDonald's experience during my interview. That's probably how I got in. 🙂

I had McD's after that movie. I kid you not. I was being rebellious on purpose though. All that damn food made me crave mcDonalds and there was one right across the street.

Has anyone had the new spicy "chicken" sandwitch? It's bomb, but too pricey. May as well eat filet mignon.

Nah - I actually made the same joke on the "brain food for the MCAT" thread on the MCAT board last week. You can't go wrong with the classics. 😀

Aww i missed that one.

Yeah, I have to say that I've become more of a Taco Bell fan of late myself. Those crunch wrap things are fantastic....Crunchy frog. Do you know that one, Zoom-Zoom?

Every time I eat at Taco Bell I get sick. I've renamed it Taco Spew. Too greasy and pretty tasteless. Taco John's is ok tho.

I guess I'm not much of a fast-food fan. Wendy's is really nice occassionally - I love to dip the fries in the chocolate frosty! YUMMMY!!!! Good Times has good burgers. Never been to Sonic or Carl's Jr. KFC can be pretty good (esp their popcorn chicken).

'Sides, why eat fast-food when you can come home and cook? I have fresh sour cream coffee cake on the counter, and leftovers in the fridge: spaghetti & homemade sauce (with fresh herbs from the garden), pork roast spiked with fresh rosemary and garlic cloves with au gratin potatoes and dilled carrots, and a beef roast cooked in wine, peppercorns, onions, and whole garlic cloves with boiled potatoes (with butter and chives) and green beans. Speaking of which - it's time to reheat and eat. 😀

Depends. Did you get a full ride at McDonalds?

You're too generous. We named it "Bite and Wipe" years ago.

while the crunch wrap supreme is in fact delicious, i think the taco bell beef/nacho cheese combo is a deadly weapon. we should consider its use in war.

The crunch wrap is fantastic. I get it with beans instead of beef, and no sour cream, so it isn't greasy at all. Put a little hot sauce on that baby, and you're good to go. 👍

Q, looks like we have more in common than just being super-geniuses...I also LOVE crunch wraps. Yes, a little Fire sauce and you are actually in heaven..it's been tested. I missed that last reference though, although my roomate swears it's monty python related...

Other taco bell favorites include: Nacho cheese chalupa, nachos supreme, meximelts, and the ChiliCheese burrito (R.I.P.). I actually had a conversation the other day with the manager about bringing back the chilicheese. He said I'm not the only one, so who knows 🙁 😉

p.s. my average caloric intake for a meal at taco bell is enough to feed a small Somali village for 6 months. pretty sick, actually. After i quit smoking fast food has been my only fix, but i've been cutting way back lately..about once a week or two weeks. that takes every ounce of strength I have

These are my all-time favorite! Maybe you need to move, because we've still got them on the menu out here- just had one a few weeks ago.

But at least now I know where to send you for med school........ :meanie: 😀

i've actually also been told once that it's some kind of mixture b/w thousand island, ketchup, and something else...or a couple other things...still, thousand island is the big one

The secret sauce is Thousand Island dressing, by the way.

I choose neither. I choose Chic-Fil-A instead.

Just kidding. 😀

Great thread.

Yup, it is. It's the confectioner's shop skit. One of the specialties is "crunchy frog." 😀 Since we have the same tastes, I highly recommend Monty Python to you. 😛

i had one of those new chicken ceasar salad wrap things at taco bell and it was so good. The pepto i had to drink afterwards......not so good.
