Hobbies Essay (HELP)

Okay, so I'm trying to pre-write some secondaries, and it's going pretty well so far. However, I've gotten quite stumped on one of the questions. The "describe a hobby or activity you're interested in"

The thing is my form of relaxation is journaling, writing on my tumblr blog, or just watching movies. I don't play sports; I only work out because I have to. I don't take cars or computers apart and put them back together. I cook because I need to eat. I don't garden or do any of the other amazing things people always talk about. Hence, I'm a little stumped about what to write about. I want to write about my tumblr blog (blog about social justice and media critique), but I'm not sure if adcoms will like that. I thought about talking about journaling, but that seems like it would be boring for others to read about.

As long as it's authentic, you need not worry. Writing about a true passion something you genuinely enjoy doing, will be better than trying to impress.

You're trying to show that you're a human being with interest and a life, not just some pre-med robot, and if you're really passionate about journaling, it would show in your writing. It'll be more interesting to read about something you genuinely enjoy because you'll be able to give specific/personal details that would back up your interest.

Go with the blog about social justice and media critique. I think that this is the sort of thing that makes adcoms say, "Very interesting. I'd like to meet this one." Keep in mind that some adcoms judge your application, in part, on whether they'd want to eat lunch with you every day during your rotation on their service. Are you interesting? Do you have any interests outside of medicine? (We can't all talk shop all the time and we can't talk shop in public places like the cafeteria.)
