Hobbies, Is there actually place to put this down on AADSAS?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

I don't know if I have room to put these down, do any of these seem worthy?

- I go snowboard in the mountains a minimum of 12 times a year, I've even been in a competition (didn't do that great but it wasn't about that for me 😛)

- I was in a golf junior league when I was 14 😛 since then i only golf like once a year

- I go mountain climbing/hiking once in a while. like recently I climbed up a mountain to a glacier and snowboarded on it

- i go long-boarding at least once a week

- play rugby, sometimes I join soccer teams and hockey teams and play

- I have a dirtbike, and I ride it a lot in the summer

- I work out and go to the gym a lot

Does any of this matter at all? just wondering? 😎

Well these are all vital in being a proficient dentist and all. Not being a smartass cause I do most of these as well but if it is not directly related to dentistry and making yourself look like a premier applicant then why put it? They may even take these things as a risk factor and it come back to be a negative thing. A dentist can't work very well with a broken hand, which is why I'm giving up motocross if I get accepted this cycle.

Thanks for the input!

Seems like fillers for your application.... If you have some serious commitment like some sort of community service it'll trump all these "hobbies" you have. I didn't bother putting these little hobbies. I'm sure ADCOMs care more about your community service hours and your shadowing hours. I just focused on my community services.

Yeah, i also have the same question, i'm wondering if it possible to put it under Extracurricular / Volunteer / Community Service and the name of the organization would be!! well, the name of the hobby. Any suggestions?🙂🙂

I think hobbies show ADCOMs that we don't sit all day with our noses in books and actually have a life outside of school. I just wish there was a specific place to include it.
I played women's professional football for 5 years. I put it under EC section (although instructions say to list related activities). You can almost relate anything to anything. Football=team player, dedication, passion, working under pressure, leadership, working with your hands, lol

I am only choosing this one sport out of many I play since this is unique.

But if you have other dental related services then I would add them instead.

Can you point me to where it says this? I didn't realize that they had to be related 😕

Like you said, you can relate anything to anything if you tried hard enough, but I guess being in clubs that are not related to dentistry = 👎?

List any related activities in order of importance to you. You may include activities from college (activities from high school are not acceptable). Keep in mind that accomplishments during college are given high priority by many admissions committees. You may list up to 10 services.

this is directly cut and pasted from the aadsas instructions for EC's. I understood "related" activities to mean related to dentistry activities. But I may be wrong!!
