Hod you do feel about Edwards getting rich suing docs ?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I lived in Europe for 7 years. My Dad worked for the NHS in the UK. Make no mistake. Doctors their are very interested in maximizing their income. Unfortunatly, they don't have too many options to do it, so many of them end up toiling away at miserable jobs. Significant numbers of them immigrate to the U.S. eventually.

I have a cousin who works as a psychiatrist in London. He says the NHS in the UK is surviving only because so many foreign doctors come from overseas (mainly India, Nigeria, Egypt, Eastern Europe, etc.) to train for a few years and get the prestigious British MRCP/MRCS qualification, which helps when they go back to practice in their own countries. Very few Brits want to go into medicine, because it's so miserable.

It's all about the cost/benefit analysis. If medicine didn't pay well, we'd have a bunch of ********* as doctors giving ****ty healthcare to Americans.

Maybe you should stop watching fahrenheit 9/11 and thinking that everything coming out of michael moore's mouth is a fact. bush did not lie to the american people - the CIA, along with many other world intelligence agencies, told bush that saddam had WMDs. If he questions everyone in those agencies and goes against what they tell him to be factual, the world would be complete chaos. are you guys going to stop attacking this administration? or do you dems truly enjoy expressing pessimism, hopelessness, and negativity with respect to our nation? stop running a sob campaign.

Great, Pass the buck over to the intelligence community. Great republican tactic there. Why do ***** republicans think everyone who isnt republican is a democrat?

make sure you use that europe line in your interview when they ask you for a comparison. also, having the ability to do something doesn't make it any less deplorable so remember to take a chill pill the next time someone flips off your grandmother. after all, This is America.

Yes, i will use the Europe thing during an interview and tell them that doctors there aren't into flashy cars or nice houses (sarcasm).

so let me get this straight, you are voting for him because he lied to the American public about huissen's WMD for the sole purpose of getting his oil men and energy companies rich(haliburton, etc)

i suggest you read more articles regarding the issues behind the war. not to mention, many of our countries soldiers are coming back in body bags just because we want cheaper oil??

HOlla

LOFL

You Pre-Allo kids need to stop sipping the Democratic Party Kool-Aid. I haven't seen a single anti-Bush post here that isn't based off some Michael Moore fantasy.

If you guys want a real political discussion come to the Everyone forum.

Could you vote for Kerry / Edwards knowing that Edwards got rich suing doctors who deliver babies for a living ? He is former lawyer who got rich suing docs and now complains about the cost of health care.

I was 50/50 on voting for Kerry due to his support for the Environment and Embryonic Stem Cell research, but his terrible voting record as a senetor and his decision to choose Edwards just because people in the south won't vote for a Northerner unless he runs with a Southerner turned me away. And if Kerry didn't vote against all that stuff the Republicans claimed he did during the GOP convention, how come he hasn't addressed it? Explain your voting record, Senetor!!! Anyway...

In one case, Edwards sued a hospital and a doctor into bankruptcy by claiming a C-Section would have prevented a baby from developing cerebral palsy. During his closing arguments, he actually pretended to be the baby inside the mother's womb saying "Let me out. I want a normal life." Yeah, you read that right. It's documented fact. What a douche.

Since that case, which won Edwards millions of dollars, C-Sections have gone from 6% of births to 26% of births because doc's are afraid of getting sued...and the rate of newborns w/ cerebral palsy hasn't changed. That's tens of thousands of mothers who are going through that unneccessary pain because Edwards just threw out every potential juror with an IQ above 80. Stupid people don't understand the difference b/w a correlation and a causation. He dumbed down the jury and just went "look what happened, and at the same time, this happened. That must have caused it, jury!!!!" And those stupid asses said "yeah." They're the type of people who believe the Red Sox are actually cursed and get their palms read.

Edwards will never get my vote, and I hope McCain kicks his ass in 2008.

The insurance companies are as much to blame as the huge awards, dont give them a free ride.

Right. So you expect insurance companies not to increase premiums on a doctor that was just sued for 34 millioin dollars. Yeah. 👍

I think they're all jackasses, but you should remember that VPs don't do anything.

Wrong. They later become president. That scares me. I don't want Edwards in the oval office right when I finish my residency. A more moderate democrat or a ticket of McCain/Guiliani would definitely help doctors out.

I may be an Independent and only recently decided to vote for Bush (barring Edwards explicitly explaining his terrible voting record as a US Senetor), but there's one thing I've thought for as long as I can remember: in general, I just can't stand the average Democrat. Republicans actually act civilized (see # of arrests by GOP's vs. DNC's at the opposings' recent national convention), don't boo people off stages and public forums, don't make obscene signs, chants, and gestures like they're 6 year olds that just learned a new curse word, allow alternative voices within their party, and are generally classier and more polite people overall.

I was just talking to my brother who's also an Independent on AIM, and we agreed the actions of democrats and their continuous obnoxious behavior is almost enough alone not to vote for them, because you don't want to be lumped with people like that. I'd honestly rather be lumped with the gun toters and bible beaters, even though I'm for gun control and don't go to church anymore.

you republicans may steal my stocks, but us demmies will steal your car! vroooooooooooooooooom

rpost,

I strongly disagree with your contention that Republicans are more civilized than Democrats. It's true that there are a lot of annoying young hippie/activist/"anarchist" (quotation marks are deliberate) who are totally intolerant of other people's views, can't think of a better way to present their argument than dressing up in weird costumes, and generally suck ass. But that's not the mainstream of the Democratic party, nor does it mean that their beliefs are neccesarily off base.

BTW, so you know, I'm not interested in debating left v. right. I'm pretty in the middle myself, tending to be a conservative on economic issues and a liberal on most social issues and the environment, and a libertarian on some other stuff. I consider myself an independent and have voted for both Dems and Repubs at different times. I just want to stick to the point about who is "more civilized".

As I see it, there's plenty of scum on both sides of the aisle, and some very decent people too. But my main reason for voting Kerry this year is precisely because I think the Bush admin is one of the least respectful groups toward those who disagree with them to ever hold the white house. They don't get into the streets and start yelling, but in other, far more effective ways they silence anybody who criticizes them.

Some examples:
1. The current Swift Boat controversy. Numerous independent investigations have raised serious questions about the ?Swift Boat Vets for Truth?. The Navy?s own records contradict their statements, as do statements made by some of the members of the group as recently as a year ago. One guy, a Doctor, who claims to have treated Kerry for some of his wounds never, according to Navy records, treated Kerry for ANYTHING. And many vets who served with Kerry have stepped forward to defend his side of the story. But Bush refuses to condemn the ads (and, a number of people affiliated with his campaign have been linked to the group), and so the controversy continues. Result: Kerry has to spend time defending his record in Vietnam, instead of talking about any real issues of relevance.

2. Eric Shinseki was chief of staff for the Army. Before the war in Iraq, he testified publicly in a congressional hearing that the number of troops needed for a successful mission would be about double what the Pentagon was claiming. He was fired shortly after. (I think we can all agree, regardless of opinion about the war, that things might have turned out better if Gen. Shinseki?s advice had been followed).

3. Joseph Wilson was sent to investigate claims that Iraq had tried to obtain Uranium from Nigeria, and found them to be false. Bush later made that claim, famously, in his State of the Union address. When Mr. Wilson wrote an article pointing out that Mr. Bush (or someone in his administration) had to have known this claim was not true, somebody?yet to be discovered?leaked the fact that Mr. Wilson?s wife was an UNDERCOVER CIA operative, thus placing her LIFE in jeopardy. This is a treasonous crime, but nobody in the Bush white house has yet to admit responsibility for it.

4. Bush had trouble convincing even members of his own party to support his Medicare reform act, expensive as it was. So his administration sent false estimates of the cost to congress. When Richard Foster, the chief actuary of the program, tried to tell congresspeople about the true costs of the program, he was threatened with dismissal. The act eventually passed. Just a few weeks afterward, the white house admitted to the higher costs, but by then?too late.

5. How many people were labeled ?unpatriotic? during the days leading up to the Iraq war? I ask you: is it civil to question somebody?s allegiance to their country just because they hold a different viewpoint than yours? Is it respectful to debate, or healthy for democracy? By shooting the messenger, it prevents any thoughtful discussion of the message.

I could go on and on, but I don?t want to spend hours writing a post, nor do I want to argue with anybody here. People are going to vote the way they want, and I respect that, because it?s a free country. But I, who am usually quite moderate, feel very strongly that Bush must go, because I really feel he is a threat to democracy and that should trump all other concerns. So, to anybody who is out there who is still on the fence, please consider what I?ve said, do some research, look beyond the sound bites and the smear campaigns, and then go vote your conscience.

Government has gotten nothing big bigger in the last 4 years. How republican is that?

Big bigger huh? I feel bad for the previous guy that spent an hour trying to assess that Democrats are as civilized as Republicans. Whether or not anyone's more civilized, at least I reread my posts before posting. 4 MORE YEARS!

how lame? 🙄 You still havent said anything and my original point still stands. Government has gotten much larger in the last four years. A HUGE new intelligence department has been created, the deficit ballooned, the Patriot act leaves the Government totally un-accountable and now they are creating a new chief terror czar. All of this and no one has even found Osama and asked him if he in fact had anything to do with Sept 11 or was it actually all CHENEY and his buddies 😱

Everything is Sept 11 Sept 11 but no one even knows who was really behind Sept. 11. All I know was that It wasnt Iraq.

Considering Osama has repeatedly aligned himself with the 9/11 attacks, I really don't know what the hell you're talking about.

I think he could just have been taking credit for something that potentially got him thousands of new recruits and probably millions of dollars from supporters. If he denied it, we wouldnt have believed him anyway so what gain would he have gotten from that? 😕 I personally have NEVER spoken with Osama Bin Laden, Have you?

Oh and where the hell are those WMD that over 1000 U.S soldiers have died looking for??

Right, but Osama did say what he said. Therefore, to me, it seems perfectly reasonable to blame him and expect justice. Whether that is what the administration is really doing is up for debate.

You really need to read the 9/11 Commission. It is actually very well written and presents some incredible information. We know for a fact that he was directly involved in the attackes. Although it wasn't his idea initially, he funded it, supported it and provided the manpower/other logistics for it.
