I just received an email stating I was put on hold for an interview. The email stated my file would be reviewed at a later time.
Does anyone know how long the CHM hold typically lasts, or what kind of percentage of people get an interview after being put on hold. I am glad it was not a rejection, but would rather have a concrete answer than being put right back in the same place I was before.. Waiting. Thank you for any insights to this question.

My experience with MSU CHM has been that the administration is extremely responsive. If I were you I would just email or call them and ask straight out.

I am in the same position too. I was wondering if anyone else has received an on hold status?

Was your "on hold" status before OR after sending LORs...since this school is really weird with the order that it does things?!?

I was put on hold before even sending them my letters 🙁 Thanks, alma mater! If anyone has any info about chances of getting off of hold and then getting an interview with my situation, please post it up! I'm planning on calling them on Monday, why not whats to lose?, so if I get any info I'll put it on here.

Theres many "on holds" that MSU-CHM has.

You may be on hold because they are waiting on your letters, your MCAT score, or something administrative. Or it could be the "We don't want to interview you now, but maybe in 2008" kinda hold.

If you call the office they are very friendly and will tell you which type.

Good luck all!

I was put on hold after the school had received and reviewed my LOR's. I am complete there, but was put on hold for an interview until a later time.

For those who are complete, how long did MSU take to ask for your LOR's? It has been over a month since I sent my essays in and still no request.

it may have had a lot to do with my app being in early, but i had my secondary submitted 7/16 and their lor request was made 7/20.

If you all ready submitted your Essays were you offered an interview? Or has this changed this year.

last year you didn't complete any essays until after your interview invitation.

Really? wow. NO this year, we wrote essays right off the bat with everyone getting a secondary.

Wow, am I really the only one on here that got the 'we don't want your LORs, so dont send them' message??? Harsh. I got that message on Aug 14th and havent heard anything since...guess its a lost cause...🙁

You aren't the only one. I was put on hold back in August as well. I applied to their special program for Leadership in Underserved Medicine and I keep telling myself that that's why I was put on hold. Whatever helps me sleep at night, right? It's a surprise. Interviews at Cornell and Mt. Sinai and put on hold at MSU...

No, they don't want mine either.

Wow, your stats are amazing, I cant believe they didnt request your letters! I also applied for the LMU program...wonder if it really does has something to do with that. I think that might be worth another stalkerish call from me to the admissions office 🙂

MSU just does things at their own pace. Last year they interviewed some people for the first time in Feb. and some in that group got in BEFORE May 15th. So late interview does not mean that you are interviewing for the wait list. Chins up.:luck:

Let me know what they say if you do call. I'm thinking about calling too...just because I'm curious why I haven't heard anything since August.

how did u guys find out that you guys were put on hold?

They email you to say that your status page has changed, and you can always check your status page if you just want to confirm that you're still on hold...the link is in the secondary email they sent ya.

I also just got off the phone with the admissions office, and she told me 'thats just part of the process'. It doesnt have anything to do with the LMU program, but she said they will place applicants that they would have an interest in on hold (even before wanting letters) because of the way they run admissions. She assured me twice that this status does not mean that they aren't interested at this point. What I took from it is they like to space the applicants out, and this is a way to manage the volume of files they get- to a certain degree they sort of randomly place you on hold so that you know you arent actively being reviewed, but once you are they will email you to ask for more info...

I do have to say, the lady on the phone was one of the most pleasant that I have spoken to. That just makes me want to go there more!!

This is odd. I got a request for my LORs before I even submitted my secondary. And then I was put on hold. 🙁

Well, I guess that sort of confirms that the letter requests are random and not an indicator of interest...they didnt even have your app yet!! Oh, well, I guess it is less stressful for all of us on hold to know that MSU just runs things a bit differently, and to try and not stress about not hearing from them. I know they did just start interviewing at the end of Sept, and they go through March for their regular admission. There's still plenty of time left!

I've been complete and under review (no LOR request, no HOLD) for over a month now. Getting a HOLD is better than feeling your application is in some sort of blackhole.

heres how my status page changed, and how long it took for everything to fall into the place they are in now for those who are curious. I hope everything goes well at the interview because this is my number one choice!

Just got the hold e-mail saying they don't want my LORs yet... They also make you pay before you even get a secondary. Very strange order. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Well at least its better than a rejection.

Dear MSU College of Human Medicine Applicant:

The College of Human Medicine Admissions Review Committee has reviewed your entire application (AMCAS and Secondary). The Committee has placed your application on hold for future review and will not be requesting your letters of evaluation at this time.

Applications are often held for comparison to the larger applicant pool that evolves over the year. This may significantly delay the Committee's decision to request letters of evaluation. Our admissions process is structured so that seats remain available for those applicants who interview later in the year. We ask for your patience until your application is again reviewed. No additional information is needed at this time. We will contact you by email as soon as there is a change in your status.

Thank you for your continued interest in the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University.

i am on hold too. i got placed on hold post secondary at the end of August. Has anyone been taken off hold yet?

They don't really reject people till next year. The hold is their way of allowing time for re-reviewing applicants that don't stand out as the best for their program (especially OOS applicants).

Plus this year I bet they are uncertain of how the process will go with their much larger incoming class.

I got the dredded 'you app is on hold' this morning 😱. Anyways, I noticed that some of you got this response without even having your LORs requested. My situation is post LOR review. I wonder if that is a "good thing"? Good luck to all of you

Damn it... I got a hold at MSU post letters too. This really sucks, looks like theres no good way out of this hole.

I have been complete at MSU CHM since 8/22 and have not heard anything from them yet - no LOR request and no hold.

I wonder if that means my application has just been forgotten about? Hmmm...I interviewed there last year, so I don't know what happened this year.

Keep in mind that Hold doesn't = rejection. MSU interviews until very late in the game. I was complete in august, wasn't interviewed till late march, wasn't accepted till April.

Hang in there!

I and all of my OOS friends (one has very solid numbers-3.8/33) who applied there got put on hold pretty fast after we completed the secondary. Is this just part of the process for OOS candidates? Thanks for the encouragement!

I just talked to an admissions lady, and she stressed that being on hold now isnt bad, although it is stressful. She told me the next time us 'holders' could expect to hear anything would be Dec 12th.

Oh yeah, and I'm hold pre-LOR if that makes a difference (AND instate AND an alum 🙁)

Should I worry that I have not heard back from MSU at all since my supplementary application was complete? no LOR request...no hold...

Is anyone else in the same boat?

Did she mention of what we can do after being placed on HOLD post LORs?

thanks for sharing the info...

As far as I know there's nothing you can do because they havent really looked at your file enough to warrant any kind of decision on you. I plan on sending an update letter when I get my grades for this semster...hopefully my 4.0 of upper levels will help a bit!

Does anyone have any updates about their status?
I've been on a pre-rec hold since 8/14--I just sent them an email update about my fall semester grades and continued interest.

I'm still on pre-LOR hold as well, also from Aug 14. It'd be nice to know if they are every going to request my letters...has anyone out there gotten off the pre-LOR hold with MSU? Stupid alma mater...

Does anyone know if they are interviewing more people than normal since their class size is increasing?

Im also on pre LOR hold! My friend actually got rejected for some odd reason (Post LOR)..He had 31 MCAT (very balanced 10 10 11)... 4.00 GPA...and awesome EC's (w/ 1 publication and lots of volunteering)...I was very weirded out when he told me this.
He got an interview at wayne though.
