What's the difference between those three terms? Is there a set definition for each term across all med schools or does it vary by school?

I think waitlist and alternate are synonyms, but hold just means that they haven't made a decision (ie, you're not the top of their list, but they might later accept/interview you) Anyone who knows more feel free to correct me on my guesses....

"Hold pre interview" means "We don't have a good reason to flat out reject you, so we'll wait and see what happens."

"Hold post interview" means "You don't have any weaknesses for us to reject you right away, so we'll reject you when our class is full."

Sorry to be pessimistic, but very few people come off the hold list.
