If I get accepted into 2 different pharmacy schools, can I pay my 500$ deposit to each school to hold 2 spots there?

The reason I say this is because I REALLY want to go to New York Albany. I got accepted there and classes start May 21st, I payed my $500. There is only 1 condition. They need to recieve my transcripts for spring semester 2007 by May 21st 2007 or else they might kick me out. And my school is SLOW on paper work as far as delivering transcripts. So my spring grades may come to them slightly later than expected.

So thats why I was wondering is it possible to hold a spot at another pharmacy school by paying them $500 as well, thus holding 2 spots. And once I am fully guaranteed admission, I can tell the other school I wont attend.

If I were you, I would contact Albany and tell them your situation before wasting another $500.

yes, this is a good idea. ask albany if a transcript issued to the student would be acceptable, since it would be faster than asking the school to mail it. and also tell your professors about your situation so that perhaps, if they're nice, they can do your grades first.

There's nothing that could stop you from paying the $500 dollars each. You're just going to be out one of the deposits.

last yr, I had about two months where I was enrolled in Butler and St Johns. It made me a lot more comfortable knowing I didnt need to rush my decision. Butler's is actually refundable until May1st, but I chose to go there and lost my deposit money to SJ.
as long as you have the money, do what you think is best.

I'm currently enrolled in two schools, one is non-pharmCAS and one is pharmCAS school, not sure if that matters.

I heard from USC admissions that the schools can see through pharmCAS though if you are in another program and he made it sound like you couldn't do that. Not sure.

When I was accepted to Albany (not my first choice), I was totally paranoid about this. I pulled out the instruction manual from PharmCAS that I printed out and found on one of the pages that said the information about where you're holding slots isn't released until June, if I remember correctly. However, at my UCSD interview, it seemed like they told us that they can inquire about you in May. I have interviewed at UCSD, UCSF, UOP, and will at WSU on Monday, and as far as I know, they have no idea that I'm accepted at Albany. Even if they do, it didn't affect my ability to get interviews from other programs. I think you'll be fine, but I recommend you look at the legal jargon in the PharmCAS about release of scores. There may also be something about it online in a privacy section, but I remember that the dates may not have been the same. I'll try to look into this when I get home from work and let you know for sure. Anyway, I would definitely contact Albany and tell them your situation, but I wouldn't worry about holding 2 slots, other than losing $500.

Hope that helps!

Keep both spots, what is 5 bills going to mean to you in about 4.5 years anyway.

Taken from p43 of the PharmCAS Application Instructions for 2007:

"Sharing of Admission Decisions

Beginning on June 1, 2007, PharmCAS institutions will receive reports regarding the number of offers of admission made and number of offers of admission accepted for those applicants the college or school shares with another PharmCAS institution. Your designated PharmCAS institutions will know how mnay offers of admission you have received and how many offers of admission you have accepted at other PharmCAS institutions. PharmCAS institutions will not know how manny applications you have submitted. They will also not know whether you were denied admission to another pharmacy school or be informed of any other admission actions amde by other PharmCAS institutions, except offers of admission made or accepted."

Sorry if there are any typos. I'm too lazy to proof read that.

Thanks pharmhopeful, I was just about to paste that. I had pasted that exact same quote on two other threads because this topic has been talked about many times before this.

My pleasure 🙂 I love SDN.

Thanks for the info guys. So I'm perfectly fine though if I keep a spot at a pharmcAS school and another one at a non-pharmcas? They have no way of knowing right?

What would a school do if they found out that a person was holding two spots at different schools?

Goodness...just pay it already!!........some ppl will even suck a lollipop just to be in your position. Why should that even be a question? There are a lot of ppl that want pharm school soo bad, but they don't even get looked at. Just count urself blessed.

It's fine to hold two or more spots until your decision is made. But for goodness sakes, once you are 100% sure where you'll attend, let the other school(s) know. For med schools I think there is a firm cutoff day (May 15?) after which you can be penalized (ie admission offer rescinded) for holding more than one spot. Although there is no published equivalent for pharm schools, out of professional courtesy to the school and students on the waitlist, you should let them know. It's one thing if your holding onto a spot while waiting on another waitlist, but I see no reason to hold onto 2 or more acceptances after May/June. Just decide already!

What if.. you get accepted to two unaccred. insitutions and you just want to wait to hear AFTER their spring APCE evals before making a firm decision?

That's a good point...I don't know!

I'm waiting until my final grade for OChem 2 at the end of the semester, as one of my schools (1st choice) won't let you retake a class during the summer - all classes have to be done by June 1st. My second choice, though, will let you retake the class in the summer. So, I will know by mid-May.
