this was from achiever.. i understand it but it goes against kaplans rule of "first line of symmetry" so does this rule not always work? i have only seen these exceptions on achiever

I may not be the best person to answer you as I don't know the "kaplan" rule, but there's nothing tricky like that on the real DAT (at least on mine). There are always complete folds where the entire paper will fold (both sheets). I hope that makes sense... 🙂
I'd highly suggest CDP... everything except the pattern folding was similar to the real DAT. I made a 19 on the real DAT as I think the angles were much harder than even CDP.

You are applying rule of line of symmetry when you unfold the paper and look for the 4 dots in the center. Line of symmetry is only 1 of many things you should look for. It is not the answer to all hole punching problems. You also need to see how many layers are being punched and where. As a rule, I mentally unfold the paper and imagine where the holes are at. If it comes down to 2 answers and the paper was folded symmetrically, I apply line of symmetry to derive to the answer.
