ok guys i dunno wat my issue is but i seem to be having problems with hole punching and TFE...it's just NOT sinking innnn...plz gimme some tipssss....i don't think it's normal to spend an hour on 10 TFE questions and still not completely understand it...and even hole punching...i've been trying to unfold it bit by bit...but i dunnooooo...ah! help!!!

i found Barron's DAT book real helpful for the PAT part.

I have two tips for the TFE. 1 - Remember what directions you can see the image from. So if you're looking at the image from the top, the bottom edge of that image becomes the top of the front image. Then the end view is seen from the right. 2 - Remembering how things are oriented will help you to figure out what lines are solid and which are dotted. If you can see the edge without any obstruction, then it is a solid line. If part of the image is in front of it and the edge is hidden, then it will be a dotted line.

Hole punching seemed easy when preparing for the DAT, but the real test puts a little border around the holes, and that messed me up. I actually started those problems by seeing where the hole punches were placed. Then it was kinda like a memory game. As it was unfolded I had to remember where the original holes were and were the new ones showed up. But one thing they try to do to mess you up is they will fold it over in a way so that when you unfold the first fold, there are no original holes.

I hope this was helpful, but if not please pm me and I'll do what I can to help. Good luck!! :luck:

yea it does... but i meant just study the tricks that Barrons has on how to approach the PAT problems👍

I don't seem to have an issue with the cubes, paper folding, or angles. My HUGE issues are the "Aperture Passing, Orthographic Projections" It's hard to remember all six rules to keep in mind. Only getting a few right in this area.🙁

I agree, aperture passing is hell. I just started DAT prep and just finished attempting a batch in Barrons. What in the world is going on? You are given this weird object and you have to pass it through one of the corresponding choices? I am guessing that the dark parts are just empty space? BTW, when we are talking about Barrons, is this the short text with 2 model exams?:scared:

I was going to buy the baby toy that you put objects in different shaped holes, the toy can only go in one way! 😀 Going over Barron again, Using Achiever for the 3D outlook but, really don't want to rely on that image projections due to the DAT won't have it.

If you have angle ranking down, then you are good to go, but be ready to distinguish between angles that are a couple of degrees different. This was the hardest section for me.

Keyholes are tricky b/c you have to worry about seeing it from 6 sides, but remember there are 3 pairs of 2 that will be mirror images of each other. So you have to recognize only 3 shapes (and how to flip them). They usually tip the object so you can see the front, top, and the right side. I started by looking at the object and observing its general shape. Then I looked at the answers to see from what direction am I going to have to look at the object. The answers might be from different views. It's easy to follow the edge of the object to see where does it turn, and where does it go back/forward and become out of sight. A lot of the time you can eliminate 2 or 3 answers by finding one thing wrong just by following the edge. Then it's just a matter of tipping the object so you see only the top/front/side view. Just keep mental note of how the object is oriented, and remember it's like a silhouette, you can only see if there is something there or not. Sometimes it comes down to what you think is the right answer, even if you're not sure. Good Luck!! :luck:

DDS-- I am trying to find a review book as thick as the blue book that will actually let you test your knowledge after each subsections. I feel like I am just reading and reading and reading endlessly with the blue book. Though the material is good, i get bored and dont know if im really retaining anything
