Hole Punching Help!!!

So I recently took a PAT practice exam on CDP, and my keyhole was terrible. I managed to get like 5 or 7 right . What methods do you guys utilize? I try using condawgs keyhole grid along with kaplans method of looking for symmetry, counting how many sheets there are and yadda yadda. Also I only used 5 mins for this section like kaplan suggested. Help pleaseee

i wouldn't stick with the 5mins recommendation. grid method takes too much time IMO. the symmetry is a good guide, but it doesn't always work. honestly i think it just takes practice. visualizing is the best/fastest way. i just kept at it by doing a practice test daily. still sucking with angle ranking tho

I started here. I was REALLY BAD! at every section other than keyhole and cube counting. It helped a lot.

and yes I don't suggest 5 minutes on keyhole. Based on my understanding on other people's breakdown, keyholes are slightly harder than CDP. I say you should spend 10~13 minutes

I was freaking out when I started CDP too, but trust me if you practice. It becomes doable after a while.

Tic-tac-toe method works well because you won't forget which holes should be punched as you unfold the paper. Before using this method, I just visualize the folds/punched in my head without writing down anything but it slowed me down A LOT because I get confused on which holes I decided it was a punch. Just figure our the best method for yourself, and 5 mins is definitely a little quick for this section. I'd say spend 8-10 min. Angles + cube counting are really the ones you could and should do at a faster pace.

Screw the grid, tic tac toe, t-bone steak or whatever they call it. At the end of the day it's crap. Similar to TFE, you just need to learn how to visualize hole punches and once you get used to it, then you'll start kicking some ass in this section.

Trust me, when I started my PAT prep, my two hardest sections were TFE and hole punches and I tried all these dorky numb nut methods such as counting lines, playing connect four, blah blah blah, and at the end of day I felt like a complete chump. So I said f*ck it, I'm going to learn the hard way and basically forced myself to start visualizing. Now I score 15/15 in TFE and hole punches in CDP no joke, and when I don't I am extremely annoyed as I feel like these are near gimmie sections.

+1 for the tic-tac-toe method. I used something similar to it and I don't think I missed a single hole punch question out of 8 CDP and 3 achiever tests. It worked wonderfully on the real thing too. If you can visualize it, then that's fine. But this method should get you 15/15 with only a little bit of practice.

the best way to learn is to review the mistakes in CDP, watch the video on the solution and try to understand why and how things are folded. theres no need to reinvent the wheel aka resolve the same thing 10 times, just look at the solution and learn from it.

I use condogs modified grid method, i draw a cross (no boxes or grids) and then I work backwards to punch in the holes as X on paper. If you want to play mental gymnastics and stress yourself out by trying to "visualize it all" good luck! you only have 5 to 7 minutes for this section (assuming you want to have a nice amount of time left for pattern folding) theres no need to make it harder, try the grid and see if you like it. I believe most people use it and have scored really well with it.

I agree, I used the "tic-tac-toe" method, which was basically a 4x4 grid. I drew a separate grid for every hole punching question so that I didn't have to constantly erase each time. U just have to learn to draw small with a dry erase 😛 i got a 15/15 every time with this method

It might help to get started by using those methods, but in the end, you have to visualize.
