It's holiday season. Many places have a small bonus for pharmacists and above, but probably not techs. Just want to poll the pharmacists/managers here to see how many are planning to get them something, and what? Same for everyone, or only those who performed well? If merit based, how to avoid being seen as showing favoritism?

Small gifts are fine. I bought everyone the same thing. They seemed to like that fact that I actually cared about them. Now I only have 2 technicians, and their pharmacists used give them $30 gift cards...

I have bought small gifts for the techs the last two years (gift cards, candy etc.), but I honestly don't think I am going to this year since not a single person thanked me for any of the previous gifts. It is a lot of people to buy for (about 14 techs), and if they aren't going to appreciate it, then I don't really see the point.

Last year I did 25 dollars for each of my staff (6). They seemed to really appreciate it.

I gave all of my techs a radio alarm clock with automatic time adjustment in case the power went out and came back on, the time would still be correct. They asked me are you trying to tell us don't be late to work? I thought that was funny, but at the same time, that was the reason I gave that to them, too. They are always late and calling in.

LOL. Great idea. I have the same issues!

I was thinking about giving gift cards to my techs too, but what about other pharmacist you work with too? would it be weird to just give the techs?

I didn't give my partner any gift last year, and my partner didn't give my techs anything for Christmas. I give to my techs since they work for me and help me out. Even if my partner gave my techs a gift, I would not expect him to give me one.

Thanks guys for the input. I'll be handing all of the full time pharmacists their small year end bonuses, so I just planned cards to go with them. I just feel felt it is a bit unfair that techs are getting nothing, especially in this economy and they are the least likely to afford presents.

Gift cards seems a little generic, but hey it's always practical. I think target sounds good without the possible slight of giving out walmart ones. 😀

Our one senior tech especially has been invaluable for my rapid acclimation to this place. I owe her a debt of gratitude, so I was thinking of building her a computer from scratch (found out her current one is 8 years old). But I worry word will get out eventually, and this will be seen as showing favoritism. Any pharmacists want to chime in?

Coffee. Increases their productivity, makes you look like a saint. Win.
