What is considered average hourly pay for a pharmacist? What about salaried pay?
 
I was really bummed when I found that the great Alaskan gold rush was a myth. I always figured that I'd have that to fall back on if all else failed, but now I have to come up with another backup plan.

$110,000 to $120,000 per year for 40 to 44 hours per week is a good starting point. Most pharmacists I know are too lazy to work 60 to 80 hours per week... but I know someone who works 2 jobs... and make over $200,000 per year. I don't know when he sleeps..

80 hours a week, I'd never go near that but its definitely possible.

24 Hours/Day * 7 Days/Week = 168 Hours/Week

168 - 80 = 88

Assuming he sleeps 7 hours a day.

88-49 = 39 Hours

Yeah, it's definitely possible but a lot of sacrifices to make.

We need to start a new myth. The Alaska thing has been proven false to death. Though it was a good one. Repeated far and wide from the mouths of every kid in pharmacy school around the nation.

I'm going with:

A pharmacist in the same neighborhood in Baltimore where they shot The Wire can sign on to make a million dollars for 3 years. You just have to buy your own security detail and learn to counsel behind bullet proof glass. But it's totally worth it. $333k - $100k for two good body guards, plus guns, ammo, Kevlar, bullet proof SUV...still makin' a haul...

Compton, CA, Gary, IN, or Juarez, Mexico would be more believable.

Haha no no I come here in peace. My cousin is a pharmacist and I hear that it's a relatively clean safe profession. I wanted to be a pharmacist for a while but changed over to medicine. I heard pharmacists make bank, but wow there is some good money in pharmacy! I never knew it was that good. You guys are lucky! 🙂
 
In case the sarcasm eludes you, the above is an average salary. There is this myth going around for the last decade that there are jobs available in Alaska where you can make $1 million if you sign on for anything between 3-5 years. It's like the magical pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that doesn't exist.

Oh yeah....well I know a friend of a friend who knew someone who went to Alaska and got 1 million plus a cool plane that lands on the water. I think you are all jealous haters. Its real!:laugh: I believe it!!!!:laugh:

how many hospitals are in alaska? my close friend just accepted an offer as a clinical pharmacist (brand new grad) and will be starting soon.
 
What a ripoff. Lived in Alaska for 5 years. As a pharmacist, $50-55/hour in Alaska is pathetic compared to the lower 48. Cost of living up there is too fargin expensive.
 
i graduated pharm school in the same city/block they filmed the WIRE

i interned around those neighborhoods too.........yea, its pretty bad, but the pay is no more than the suburbs........so sad but so true

same with south central LA area........i live in LA and commute about an hour north (hard to hire area) and get paid about 8 bucks more an hour than the pharmacists that work in compton, watts, etc........no sign on bonus if u work the walgreens on the corner of slauson and normandie...........so sad but so true
 
This should be at least $65/hr, considering I know a guy who just accepted a hospital position in Orange County, CA last week for that much. Don't want to live here, thanks.

Funny, there's an IHS opening there. Or at least there was last September when I was scouting IHS jobs.
 
Sounds great with the no weekends and no call, hopefully there are more and more opportunities like this outside of Alaska. That state is just too cold. I want to stay in Maryland or go someplace warmer.

Well, come on down to the south. I wore shorts and short sleeves today. And there are still plenty of opportunities to boot.
