I know a lot of you hate these "what are my chances" threads but I really could use some advice...

Okay, my gpa is ~3.1 (prob lower w/ AADSAS conversion), and sci gpa about 2.95 or so, not sure what it is exactly. On my DAT, I got: AA: 24 TS: 24
Bio: 21 GC: 27 OC: 25 RC: 24 QR: 22 PAT: 16 😳

What schools value DAT more than gpa? And also, LOOK at my PAT score! 😱 I was thinking about retaking it but I dont want to score lower on the science sections and retake it just for PAT..

What schools do you think will view me as an acceptable candidate? Also, will I still make it through interview filters b/c of my low gpa but high dat (minus pat)?

Any input appreciated, thanks guys 👍

Your DAT is incredible. Looking into the future, I see you choosing from a handful of schools.

👍

Very nice DAT result.

Only problem I see with that one is that her PAT is may be too low for UOP.
That's what I was thinkin too

With such AA scores, the 16PAT will be overlooked like a midget in a crowded NY city street.

Awesome scores!!! UOP will definitely take an interest in you.

Hey, Gurl21 - if you don't mind me asking, what do you attribute your success to with the DAT? How did you do in your science classes at your school? You did not perform that well (as I can see from your science GPA), so how did you achieve GREAT scores on the DAT? I'm guessing hard work, dedication and all that, but something doesn't quite add up 😕

I don't want to question you on your DAT scores, (You did GREAT!), but I'm sure you understand that I'm a little puzzled 😕

Thanks

I agree guy. Those great AA scores means a tremendous amount of outside study time was devoted to the DAT. I guess you just didnt study/practice the PAT as you did the AA sections.

Thinking I was a hot shot,I took the DAT my first time cold-turkey. No sutying/prep at all. For the second one I studied about 8 hours a day for 14 days.

Hey, thanks! Well, I just want to say, for starters I'm a fairly intelligent person. My low gpa can be attributed to the fact that I took a lot of hard science classes my 1st two years, b/c I had credit for about half of all the introductory pre-req's. My gpa has taken an upward trend since then, so while I have received good grades, my gpa has not risen that much (I have 120 credits). I did study for the DAT, but I wouldn't say that I studied way more than anyone else out there who is taking the DAT.

I did practice the PAT a lot, but the real DAT had much harder PAT than what I was practicing. Plus, I ran out of time.

I doubt it. Schools set standards for a reason. If a good PAT score weren't important, most schools wouldn't single it out along with AA as benchmarks for hopeful applicants.

DUKE BS Biochemistry, BS Physics
GPA: 4.0
Science GPA: 4.0
DAT: 16/16, second 20/25

Applied: UNC, UOP, Harvard
Accepted: UNC, UOP, Harvard
Attending: Harvard

It's really funny how your scores in your post don't match your sig.

Anyway, I only know of one person that got into UOP with a 16 PAT. She had a 24AA and a 4.17 GPA. Needless to say, she got into every school she applied to and decided on somewhere else.

I didnt say they werent important.....but when you bring such an upside in one half, it brings up the other half, which may (which is in this case) weaker ....think of it like a scale or teeter totter...

sorry, i didn't realize premedman had posted to this thread. but you're right, they're not your scores. not enough 0s.

dont worry about it....just remember...dentistry is a very specific and detailed profession...not paying careful attention will cost you....just ask my buddy who started counting teeth from the wrong side on dental morphology mid-term and hes retaking the class this summer.

okay okay.....can you not lecture people for one second of their life?

To the OP: You'll be fine with those scores. As others have noted your scores are great, sans your PAT, but it isn't so low that they'll readily toss your application. You have an excellent chance during this cycle so keep you head up, win 'em over in the interview, and watch the acceptance letters roll in. 👍
