Honestly, do I still have a shot with Stony?

Ok, so I realize I am extremely fortunate to have received my interviews. Stonybrook is right now my top choice school, and I haven't heard from them. My scores are good, so I was half expecting an interview. I'm also a NY res. Is it too late in the game for them, or should I not give up hope?
I've even sent them updates with my new grades and even an award - plus expressing my cont'd interest.
what should i do now??? give up - or keep on?

I was definitely expecting an interview from Stony and Downstate, but I yet have to hear from them. I dont know what the deal it, but they better send those invites out pretty soon

i assume you tried calling right medapp?

perhaps emailing the dean or admissions director to let them know you are extremely interested...wanted to know if they filled their class etc...

it seems like you are doing what you can. dont be foolish and give up when its still feb. theres still time.

The second look is on March 19, so I'm assuming all acceptances would be given out by then. I don't know if they are still sending invites out , but definatelly give them a call. Someone mentioned they give invites out until Feb/March.

i called and i got a secretary (i'm assuming) - she was extremely hurried on the phone and not helpful at all. just telling me i'm under review.
does anyone have the email address for the dean of admissions? i would definitely drop him/her a line.
thanks

the dean's email is on the website.

not to burst your bubble... but i wouldnt get my hopes up. i am waiting too. im sure they already have enough people to fill their class and then some. its quite a popular school. and they dont really favor residents, or alumni for that matter. sucks.

I've been waiting too... I heard that they sent out mass rejections in March, although the admissions sec. said that they are sending out interview invites for a few more weeks. But Stony Brook does favor residents; they just have too many super qualified NY state residents applying. Just look at their average MCAT (31) compared to Buffalo (29.xx) Downstate (who knows) and Upstate (who knows).

I think that it is 32. I was looking at the Stony, Downstate, Buffalo and Upstate match lists (and for that matter the Einstein, NYMC, MSSM and NYU match lists) and I found something interesting. The top quarter of each class all matched to amazingly competitive residency programs (opthalmology, radiology, orthopedics, urology, ENT, plastics, IM @ top hospitals). Seems to me that your future depends little upon where you go to school, and more so upon what you make of the experience.

Yup. All the SUNYs are solid schools. I don't know why they are given such a bad rep, especially Upstate, Buffalo, and Downstate.

My mistake... 32 is the published and correct figure.

I agree.. The SUNYs esp. Upstate and Downstate shouldnt have a bad rep. Going to a state school who would like you to match in state is not a bad thing considering that NY has some of the best hospitals in the country.

StatsWise, Stony Brook is the toughest to get into. 3.6/32 right?

I was complete with Stony Brook on 12/18, and I sent my secondary on the extended deadline (12/15). My interview invite was sent on 1/20 and scheduled for 2/26 (earliest). Hope that gives you an idea of whether there's still a possibility for an interview or not.
